Overview
More
Situated principally on the right bank of the River Seine, it also includes the west end of the Île de la Cité. The arrondissement is one of the oldest in Paris, the Île de la Cité having been the heart of the city of Lutetia, conquered by the Romans in 52 BC, while some parts on the right bank (including Les Halles) date back to the early Middle Ages. It is the least populated of the city's arrondissements and one of the smallest by area, a significant part of which is occupied by the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens. Much of the remainder of the arrondissement is dedicated to business and administration.

This is a very central district in Paris, right net to the Seine. Some very famous museums, parks and buildings are located in this district and it is always filled with tourists.

Stayed in this part of town this time, and found it so central to everything!! We could walk to a lot of places, Especially liked the walk to the Tuillerie Gardens, and across the SEine to the Musee d'Orsay, and the Louvre.

My hotel was in the First District (Arrondissement) , so I am a little biased toward this area. Yes, it is touristy, but I am a tourist and I wanted to be in the center of things. The people were all very friendly, very polite....More

Paris, as you know is divided into several small districts, in a snail like pattern. This is the epicenter of all of this and where Paris started and thrives. Here, there are many many of the main iconic Paris attractions: The Louvre, Tuileries Gardens, the...More
