A calm place

A calm place; especially if one have exhausted by too many museums and other such usual heritage sites of Paris.

We loved the atmosphere at this harbour close to Bastille. It feels like a hidden gem as there are not a lot of people/tourists. We enjoyed some drinks on the terrace. A good place for having a calm break during your stay. Highly recommended.

An unusual place off the Seine with many different types of boats moored up. Lovely to see all the old fashioned wooden ones too. Cobbles to walk on and a little graffiti around but quite nice in the middle of the city. Little park areas for the children. Many locals walking their dogs there. Worth a walk through.

The boat basin, between the Place de la Bastille and the Seine, is named after an arsenal that existed at this location from 16th till the 19th century. Later it was an important commercial port and in 1983 it was converted into a recreational port. Now, it is a very nice area for taking a break from the city’s bustle... More

The east side of the basin has some nice grass and places to enjoy your "French wine and cheeses." Kick back and enjoy, we are here on our own boat and that makes it even more special.

The canal tour company Canauxrama has a small kiosk beside the marina at Port de l'Arsenal. You can buy tickets for a 2.5hr cruise along the Canal Saint-Martin which departs 2.30pm. It costs €17 but you can get €4 off with a voucher in the Vedettes du Pont-Neuf brochure. They do Seine cruises. Highlight of the trip is right at... More

Nice park along the water, at the site of the yacht harbor of Paris. Perfect for a Sunday stroll to get away from the traffic noise and feel like you are by the seaside. Watch the yachts anchored along the side or walk in the little park for some greenery. On a nice day, you can sit outside at the... More

We took the metro from our hotel to the Bastille to revisit this French marina . It has lots of boats moored as their home marina or ad visitors but there were spaces for new visitors. There were pleasant garden areas and the cherry trees were full of fruit. There are several children's play areas. At one end is the... More

Staying in Le Marais

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
