The largest existing section of this very ancient wall, long torn down or incorporated into buildings. You will find it in the Marais, behind the St. Paul church and part of a school yard. Very old Paris.

As an archaeological buff, I enjoy tracking down ruins. In Paris, I have sought out various remaining sections of the city wall that King Philip II of France had constructed to protect Paris while he participated in the Third Crusade. The entire defense went up between 1190 and 1215 and is composed of limestone brick reinforced with stone rubble and mortar.
A friend, who lives in Paris, told me about a section located in a parking garage. I could not resist checking this out on a recent trip to the city. The garage is on rue Mazarine, next to the entrance to Passage Dauphine. A plaque stands by the garage's pedestrian entrance, giving details about the fortification in French.
We descended to the second level and immediately saw the remains of the wall. It formed a backdrop to the parking spaces filled with vehicles. At one end, I noted part of a semi-circular tower, one of the 77 included in the original defense. We went up one level for a further inspection of the remains. Though hundreds of years old, the wall appeared to be in good condition.
For those who find such ruins of interest, I highly recommend seeking out this hidden treasure on rue Mazarine.

There are a number of places around Paris where you can see sections of it's Medieval City Wall. It was built in the 12th Century by King Philippe-Auguste. On Rue Clovis just east of the Pantheon a section cuts across the road. It is 8 metres in height and a plaque tells a bit about the history of the wall. Another section runs alongside basketball courts on Rue des Jardins Saint-Paul north of the Seine.

This is an ancient city wall, or at least a remnant of it and fascinating to see that it is preserved and made a part of this old neighborhood.

This really makes you realise how unimportant we are. This wall still stands while everything changes around it.
I have never seen it before and while I was researching unusual places to see in Paris stumbled upon this gem.
I used google maps to find it, as it's not in the easiest of places to get to.
Very interesting and very old.

During my walk today, I visited the Wall of Philip II Augustus and it’s certainly interesting and unique - and a nice piece of history that has been retained for all to see. There is a plaque on and next to the wall describing its historical significance in French.
It’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.

This is a vestige of one of the medieval wall os the old city. Not munch left of this wall, except for a few places where it has been incorporated into buildings. Here it is out in the open and next to a school yard.

A grand wall was built around the city, by Phillip the 2nd, so he could go off and fight in the 3rd crusade, what is left these days is traces of the wall. we had lots of fun looking for the as we explored the city.
