- Helen DBoston, Massachusetts27 contributionsFondation visit, what a treat. Rothko exhibit gorgeousThis is a must see in Paris, a huge delight. We had the privilege of seeing the Rothko exhibit, but the building alone is worth the trip. We took the metro and walked 20 mins to the Fondation, had pre booked tickets. The edifice is magnificent and whimsical and so very unusual, designed by F Gehry. Drop your coat and bag off at the coat check- don’t bring your water bottle as they will most likely make you throw it away. Make sure you go to the 3rd floor and go out to the balconies which provide a gorgeous view of Paris and the a sliver of the Bois de Boulogne park. Find the Eiffel Tower- great photo opp between angles of the building. The Mark Rothko exhibit was enormous, extensive and amazing- bring your earbuds so you can listen (in English for us) to the descriptions of the paintings, or “pictures” as the narrator calls them. Plan to be there at least 2 hrs. There are lots of green areas around, and as we walked back to the metro passed a simple but delicious place to buy a sandwich and water.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 October 2023
- JordanF202 contributionsCame for the art, stayed for the buildingWe decided to go to the Rothko exhibit, which was fine, but how many Rothko's do you really need to see? Once we finished going through the exhibit, we decided to poke around the building, especially the many balconies outside. As sometimes happens when a museum is a great building, we thought the building (by Frank Gehry) was better than the art! Be advised that getting to and from the place is a bit challenging. Friends dropped us off, but when we left we gave up public transport and ordered an Uber.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 November 2023
- AburelBucharest, Romania3,166 contributionsDaring architecture and art expoNot my first time at the venue. This time was Rothko, a controversial painter among people. The place was pretty busy due to the exhibition so outdoors were a good escape even if hazy times occurred. The shop is not so wow and the resto busy. But the architecture and the exhibition spaces are always admirable.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 November 2023
- Robbert LAmsterdam, The Netherlands2,635 contributionsSuperbSuperb. Unique building, already worth the trip. Same architect as Bilbao s Guggenheim. All, or at least a enormous amount of them, works of Mark Rothko exhibited during our visit. Perhaps not so much my choice but unique to see it all together in this extravagant building. Also a few Giacometti s.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 November 2023
- Mary Jane E33 contributionsMark Rothko at Fondation Louis VuittonThe Fondation, designed by Frank Gehry and set in the Bois de Boulongue is a wonderful exhibit space. Currently they have an amazing retrospective of Mark Rothko. The space lends itself so well to Rothko’s work. A real must see! The one downside-the shuttle bus from Arch de Triomphe. We had to wait 40 minutes for a no show bus and driver. With a line of 50-60 people waiting for the bus, the driver spent his time on his phone rather than driving the bus! Very infuriating! I advise a can to the exhibit-not the shuttle bus you have to pay for!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 November 2023
115 items were displayed chronologically over 4 floors from his earliest figurative paintings to the abstract works that he is most known for today. - RonL40Utica, New York3,633 contributionsMarvelous building by Frank Gehry. Excellent exhibition space. The Vuitton Foundation is renowned for its special exhibitions and the Mark Rothko show did not disappoint... a curatorial success of remarkable proportions, bringing together scores of Rothko's work that demonstrate his growth as an artist as well as the abstraction phases that continued through the end of his life. One learns much more about Rothko the person as you learn about his artistic progression. The exhibit, of course, is in a remarkable Frank Gehry building that is well worth the visit just to enjoy the architecture. Superb space in which to view an exhibit. Very easy to navigate with plenty of room to view the works.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 November 2023
- Harry GSolon, Ohio344 contributionsAmazing StructureWe have visited several times. The building is the main reason to go for us. Truly incredible. It is worth the visit even if you do not look at the exhibits. The exhibits change often so repeat visits are worthwhile. We had lunch in the cafe. Fine. This is an absolute must see if in Paris.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 December 2023
- HaebeeSingapore, Singapore854 contributionsAwesome!!This is a magnificent building you should not miss! We were looking forward to the Rothko exhibition, and we were simply blown away! The Collection included well over 100 of his paintings, and with the guided tour, we were given an excellent appreciation of Rothco’s life and his approach to art - how he wished to engage his audience. The spaces were very bright, the building was well-connected by escalators and lifts. There’s a fine dining restaurant on site, and outside the building there are gardens and playgrounds and amusement spaces for young children. Very popular- you need to book way in advance.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 16 December 2023
- Lydia KBoston, Massachusetts57 contributionsWow!We visted during the Rothko exhibit. While the paintings were fascinating (I especially liked the ones from his "middle" phase - between his human-form and color periods) it was the building itself that is absolutely spectacular! Go see it and be sure to go up to the terraces where you can see the architecural masterpiece in detail. The galleries at the foot of the cascading foungtain are also wonderful. Afterwards you can exit into the gardens and get a different perspective. To get to the museum there is a shuttle service and maybe one city bus but it was a nice day so we walked via the paths of the Bois de Boulogne. No liquids allowed past security check point.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 December 2023

Often one might hear the opinion that visiting the Louis Vuitton Foundation is only worth one's while depending on a particular exhibition. We disagree vehemently. We, as many other a Paris visitor, love and are being charmed by Haussmannian buildings and Grands Boulevards, but the creation of Frank Gehry, the indisputable genius of modern architecture, does fully merit a dedicated trip to Fondation LV.
Additionally, it is a good opportunity to visit the area of Bois de Boulogne, somewhat distant from the central arrondissements, Bois de Boulogne that is a cult location for French and world culture, arts, and literature (think Marcel Proust, Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Van Gogh or Jean Béraud, among dozens and dozens of celebrated painters and famous writers who portrayed the location). This opportunity includes a quick visit to the nearby Jardin d'Acclimatation, which grounds merge and blend right into the territory of the LV Foundation. The latter is ideal for visitors with small children who would love the leisurely waddling peacocks and ducks, pony and amusement rides, rafting adventure, and a puppet theater.
Right now, for another month, an amazing exhibition "New World of Charlotte Perriand" is on display. As the title goes, it is dedicated to Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), a larger than life seminal figure in the French and world design. The exposition of a highly extensive and representative nature is located on the several levels and includes the works of Charlotte Perriand's close collaborators, such leading artists of the XXth century as Picasso, Fernand Léger, Le Corbusier (whose artwork, much to our revelation, proved to be so more contemporary and beautiful than his monstrous architectural heritage), Joan Miró, and Alexander Calder, among others.
Of course, numerous design works and installations by Charlotte Perriand are comprehensively represented.
Tickets are available online, on the Foundation's website.
Uber "Black Car" (professional drivers, known in France and listed in Uber app as "berlins") was about 25 euro from the Left Bank. A trip from a centrally located Right Bank hotel or apartment should be around 20 euro.

Amazing building but unfortunately packed. Everyone checked for vaccine and mask wearing almost universal but still felt uncomfortable at times as it was so crowded. The current exhibition of the bothers Morozov takes over the whole gallery so none of the permanent collection is on display but it convers all the major Impressionist paintwrs of the late 19th century. Lots of people have mentioned the long queues and indeed the queue too get in this Friday morning was immense but a to of to pay the €6 to enter the Jardin d'Acclimatation and you can buy a Fondation ticket with no queueing at all.

This spectacular building and the gorgeous Morozov exhibit have to be seen in the middle of the week or shortly after noon to avoid crowds!
We bought a premium ticket (22euros) to avoid queuing up and it was well worth it as it included the visit, the transport from Paris place de l'Etoile to the museum and back in a private bus, and the entrance to the small but pleasant parc next to the foundation. Timed tickets are cheaper but you still have to queue up and wait.
Don't miss the grotto with its fountain downstairs, nor the many gorgeous terraces on the upper floors. The restaurant is pleasant but expensive, however it is the only alternative when you are finished visiting, hungry and exhausted ;-)
The Morozov exhibit, organized in partnership with the Hermitage Museum, the Pushkin Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, is one of the world’s foremost collections of Impressionist and Modern art. It is STUNNING! Cézanne, Gauguin, Manet, Matisse, Sisley, Bonnard, Rodin, Maillol, you name it!!! Russian artists are present as well and just as amazing, Serov, Golovin, Outkine, as well as Mashkov, Konchalovsky, Saryan and Konenkov!
The exhibit has already been extended but we do wish they could extend it further.

I visited the Foundation last weekend for the first and last time. First of all, we bought tickets online in order to avoid long queues and simplicity - this plan didn't work out even: 45 minutes to queue, unfriendly staff screaming orders to visitors at security point, stressful! Moreover in times of COVID I do not understand how the management of this museum take the responsibility to sell more tickets than reasonable, impossible to respect social distancing rules. The walkthrough-system is just like at IKEA, you cannot return to any artwork since there is a strict direction of visit. Clearly, here the rules are different than in state owned museums: profitability and money-minded interests stand before culture and education. Sad.

Despite it being the middle of winter, we waited for almost an hour in the queue to enter, so booking online may be helpful. If you are interested in architecture, you are likely to appreciate this building. There is a bookshop and very expensive restaurant on the ground floor. The very top of the building offers an awesome view of the city, but it's likely to be more pleasant in the summer months as it was bitterly cold at the top. There are clean toilets and the space is well maintained. There is a beautiful selection of Picasso paintings which was a joy to see, as well as other artists.

Took a day trip to Paris just to visit the amazing Morozov art collection. It was a bit too crowded to really spend time viewing individual paintings but definitely worth the visit. Unfortunately the museum is sold out of the English version book of the exhibition and they don’t expect to print more despite the fact that the foundation has extended the exhibition by over a month.

Paris is a marvel of art everywhere, so making an effort to reach this less than convenient place, should be worth it.
With premium ticket you get a free shuttle bus (blubus) from the triumph arc to the museum and back. It goes every 20 mn.
The architecture of the building is unique, and very interesting. There is a nice showroom for its constuction and architect. Is it worth the visit just for that ?mmm .. probably not.
Therefore there are exhibitions (changing from time to time).
To my dismay, it was a simon hantai showcase and likewise. We were in and out in 40 mn. I am all for impressionism, but 5 floors of very similar art of dots, stains , and colored sheets are too much for me.
So check well before whats on show.

Five of us toured this museum together. Visiting in January was a plus, as we were able to walk right in without a line. We ended up spending several interesting hours looking at the exhibits, walked outside, saw the waterfall and the small house constructed at the bottom, and talked our way back in to visit that as well. The building itself is gorgeous and thought-provoking and the exhibit that was there when we were - the work of Charlotte Perriand and fellow designers - was both familiar and educational.

This is the third time I’ve been to this beautiful museum; the art—if you can see it between the crowds of people—is wonderful. So is the architecture.
But did I mention the crowds? Yikes! Bad, even if it weren’t for covid. The museum has only timed entry but I’m not sure why/how that helps. First, there’s a long wait to get in at your selected time because there is only one x-ray machine to scan all the bags. And French are never good at social distancing in lines, even outside. Then, once you’ve entered, there are so many people blocking the way to get to the art, let alone see it once you get near a particular piece. Makes, all in all, for a most unpleasant art-viewing experience. Give me a small, uncrowded museum any day for a more pleasant cultural experience.

If you wonder why it’s free don’t make the trip outside Paris to find out. The building is closed for visitors except the main lobby and the amphitheater with some media display. There was no warning on the website informing on that development at the time of the reservation. And they leave staff to answer to the mesmerized tourists finding themselves in a trap. This is misinformation and arrogance.
