Tripadvisorβs approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow, words cannot tell the story. It is a beautiful piece of art and such a grand dedication to God. The chapel holds concerts from time to time and has such a peaceful feeling about it.

The Royal Chapel is the third thing we liked best in the palace of Versailles, just after the Hall of Mirrors and the Battle room.
The Chapel is pretty big, made on two levels and it strongly reminds me on the Paris' Saint Chapel, although it does not have such amazing stained glass.
You cannot enter it, just observe it from the entrance.

PROS
* Glorious and stunning
* Gilded with gold
CONS
* It can be seen only from outside the balcony
* Large crowds at the narrow entrance to see the thing
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... as part of my self-guided walking tour through the Palace of Versailles. Because of the overwhelming crowds, I couldn't get close enough to see anything from the ground floor but was able to manage to see stuff from the balcony.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is part of the 22 euro admission (covered with the Paris Museum Pass)
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
If i am touring the palace of Versailles gain, I would of course go here too
ADVICE
* See it when you are there
* Be prepared for crowds

One of the many nice attractions of Chateau Versailles is the Royal Chapel which was built between 1698 and 1710 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart on order of Louis XIV. Unfortunately, Louis was only able to use this beautiful chapel for five years before his death in 1715.
The architecture of the chapel has Gothic influence, found in the lofty nave vaulted arches, large window arcades and large inner columns. There is also notable evidence of Baroque architecture, popular at that time, seen in the ornamental marble floor, gilded alter pieces and the ceiling frescos.
The ceiling frescos in particular are quite impressive, featuring an iconographic programme of works, which celebrate 'The Trinity'. The paintings were done between 1708 and 1710 by Charles de La Fosse, Antoine Coypel and Jean Jouvenet. The works are lovely to look at and are quite photogenic.
At the front of the chapel you can see an attractive alter area. An important piece there is the gilt bronze structure called 'Pietra' created by Corneille Van Cleve, the French sculptor who created many of the statues and sculptures you can find around Versailles.
We also enjoyed seeing the beautiful pipe organ built in 1711 by Robert Cliquot, from the famous family of organ builders responsible for those found in Notre Dame Cathedral, Saint Sulprice, Saint-Louis des Invalides, Saint Ruen Cathedral amongst others. We were lucky to hear a melody being played during the time of our visit.
Overall, we enjoyed the Royal Chapel and found it to be one of the more memorable things to see within the Chateau de Versailles.

Chapel makes it sound like it is small, but no, the Royal Chapel is huge and gorgeous. From the ceilings to the lights to the alter, every spot reveals another part of France's history. I was awestruck to be in this chapel.

You need to be on a tour to get inside the chapel. It is worth spending the money for a tour to see this.

I become hot and sweaty in this very room, every time I walk in here. It's like going on acid, it's pretty cool.

Part of the palace of Versailles, the royal chapel was the private chapel of the French royalty. It has two floors with an arcade on the first floor topped by a colonnade on the second. The chapel is shaped like a rectangle with a circle at the far end housing the altarpiece on the first floor and an organ on the second. The white walls and arches are beautifully decorated with friezes while the ceilings are painted with beautiful frescoes.
The royal chapel is only accessible through a guided tour of the palace (the normal entry ticket only allows you to glimpse at the second floor) but is well worth the extra expense.
Definitely not to be missed.

Unfortunately we didn't get to go in, but just by having a look at the chapel you could tell what sort of noise this grand room would make for services. The gold is just an added bonus!
