New Montpellier

New but seems older. Great for strolling around & so accessible by tram. Airport bus just around the corner. Great shelter throughout

I had a couple of hours spare so I walked in am easterly direction from the Place de la Comedie. The buildings are impressive! I spent time trying to spot the bicycles stuck to the walls... The buildings are well spaced out...Plenty of greenery and fountains and canals... An architect's dream!

Esplanade d'Eutope is a part of Antigone district. History of Antigone started in1978 when the city acquired land belonging to the military. New district was designed by well known architect. The outcome is amazing. Must visit in Montpellier.

If You already have seen most central places in Montpellier then have a walk from Place de la Comedie to Esplanade d'Europe. Funny architecture, huge living complexes - one guide said that the appartments are dedicated to more low-key people. At the end of the Esplande is a huge Square and the river.

If you are feeling a bit oppressed by the city, take a 15 minute walk from the Place de Comedie through the Antigone area to get to the river. A few restaurants and bars, but mostly relaxing by the river.

Break up your day by walking through the Polygone shopping centre to Antigone - Esplanade d'Europe located here. Less busy than old Montpellier with restaurants, markets and vendors along the way

It wasnt what I had expected and it just seemed so different from the place we were staying in and around (Gambetta). Its Montpelliers beginning of its modern move, obviously Pablo Picaso area and the Expo area are the new age of Montpellier, but this must have been controversial in its day. The sheer expanse of building in a huge semi... More

We walked around here and it's just a beautiful area. Would highly suggest it. It's accessible by the blue line 1, Leon Blum , Place de'l Europe or Antigone. Go for a walk and explore the lovely fountains and the arching buildings and the new mixing with the old. Absolutely loved it

Walked around this area several times. Nice architecture, a great little market area during the day, and wonderfully lit up at night
