Les Halles de Narbonne - most beautiful market in France
I am a Texan who has had a house in Narbonne for the last 8 years. One of the primary reasons why I bought my home here was Les Halles. The market, voted the most beautiful market in France for 2022, is the heart and lungs of the city and surrounding area. A must visit, as it is special in every way.

    Beautiful place in Narbonne
Wonderful place to be visited in Narbonne. Delicious food, relaxing, and directly located in town. Try some oysters, anyway some fish, if you cannot eat oysters. You have nice dishes to choice, enjoy your vacation.

We stopped in here to see the building and also peruse the various booths. You can get everything from fresh fish, rabbit and chicken to vegetables, bread and desserts. there are also little food/deli counters where you can try typical local dishes and some small establishments even had tables or a bar to sit at for lunch and beverage. There was great energy and lots to see, and the historic building is richly decorated as well. There's a nice restroom (free; women's is downstairs just outside the entrance to the market). We enjoyed wandering and "grazing" our way through the booths.

Located a couple of hundred meters from the town center and well signposted. We visited on a Sunday morning and were pleasantly surprised to find almost all of the stalls were open. Quite busy for a Sunday we thought but it wasn't too crowded. Masses of local produce to be found that wouldn't be in the supermarket.

One of the best French markets. Les Halles of Narbonne is famed for its great food and atmosphere. From the train station, you can take a free shuttle bus. Les Halles is centrally located within view of Pont Des Marchands. Highly recommend!

We have visited this beautiful market several times over the past 20 years and it never fails to impress. A huge variety of delicious foods from the local area. Lots of little bars and places to eat. Highly recommended.

A great historic market hall. Well worth a look around whilst it is in operation. Make sure that you get there to be able to lunch at one of the food stalls inside. We ate at Chez Bebelle which was excellent with theatre thrown in as wel!

Its a wonderful little fresh market.
Some of the stalls also serve light food, coffee & breakfast.
The market is next to the canal.
Walk across the bridge to the town centre to enjoy the old city.
The market closes at 2pm.

I want to praise the city, not the mediocre market which is my only way in on this site.
Yes the old market hall is externally gorgeous but internally same same as many others, as is the street market (I bought 2 nice jumpers - although I could probably have got them in Leather Lane if I still lived in London).
We came by train from Carcassonne and were totally seduced by the contrast - a faux medieval artifice rebuilt by Viollet-le-Duc and a living breathing city with the Roman road from Italy to Spain at its heart and a cathedral that Viollet-le-Duc was not allowed to "complete".
A free bus round the centre. The Merchants Bridge with buildings on both sides so you don't know it's a bridge (Old London Bridge, Poultney Bridge in Bath). Fabulous cathedral with wonderful stained glass.
I'd make Narbonne the centre of any further exploration of the Languedoc region,

Narbonne Daily Market or to use its correct name-
Les Halles,Narbonne, must be one of the best indoor markets in France. A true Belle Époque structure, wrought iron and tiles, it is crammed with gastronomic delights. It is open daily from 8 am to 1 pm and sometimes later.
I could spend hours here. The atmosphere is vibrant . The hustle and bustle of people choosing the locally sourced fruit and vegetables, the huge selection of fresh fish and crustaceans . The best selection of home made pates ,pastries and pies are some of the best I have seen.
Afterwards we enjoyed a cold beer at the bar with beer barrels ,in the centre of the building. Unforgettable . Narbonne is a truly historic exciting city.
