Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I would definitely recommend visiting LAAC if you are nearby and have an interest in modern art. The outside sculptures were particularly thought provoking. Our trip was tainted however by the attitude of one member of staff who felt the need to stalk us around the whole museum at close proximity. I am presuming it was because we had children (10 & 13) but they are genuinely interested in art and behaved beautiful. I understand that it was her job to watch over the art but I am not sure the scowl is mandatory. My family were made to feel uncomfortable in an environment that is not reserved for the few, art is meant to be accessible to the masses. Shame!

Visiting LAAC was quite a surprise - not knowing what really to expect and a first-time-visitor to Dunkirk it was a very pleasant experience, beautiful building with top Danish Design furniture, surprising pieces of art, and a lovely atmosphere about the place. Outside, beautiful water lilies in the pond and sculptures in the park.

This place does not have a cafe from which you can buy food. Only vending machines, which only take coins. Great. If you have them. Not much use if you turn up and then realise you are a bit hungerous.
So, I rushed my trip more than I otherwise would have done. Because there is some very interesting art that would definitely have been worthy of a longer look around!

This is a stunning museum. Lots of contemporary pieces accessible to view. A lovely easy walk round which we both enjoyed.

This is intentionally harsh review as it relates to the maintenance of their website and poor communications. We had purposely planned to a trip to France with this in mind. After double checking their website for opening times and emailing them regarding being open on Sunday the 10th March with no reply we went there. To find that it was closed. It seems they are (always) closed the Sunday after Mardigras. This needs to be added to the website. However the grounds were accessible and we enjoyed a walk around the external exhibits. - So be warned they are all dressing up like clowns and on the razz this week!

At my time of visit very little was ongoing an the museum - just the standard collection, for a large part sitting in archival drawers. Of course, the top pieces of their collection could be admired. Large parts of the museum were temporarily closed. I recommend to visit the museum only after having verified that an active exhibition is going on.

It was my first visit to Dunkerque, and I was not impress. However the LAAC save the day for me. The museum has a wonderful collection of contemporaneous Art in a odd building probably of the seventies, completely covered with bathroom tiles. I visited recently the Tate modern in London, and I can say that although the collection is smaller, in terms of quality you can find similar stuff. For example, in the new building of the Tate there is a space devoted to videos of Rebecca Horn; well there is also a room in the LAAC for Rebecca horn. In the third floor, there is a repository with great paintings.
