19th century taxidermy
Feb 2020 • Family
This is not a major museum people! Flicking through the other reviews, it is what it is, a provincial museum based on in essence a private collection?!

The places basically exhibits taxidermy animals plus are few tanks of living insects, but for a parent with a nine year old, it proved to be a fascinating place to spend an hour or so. The introduction of the world of taxidermy and specimens in jars provoked a sense of gross and the macabre, but a fascination of the natural world. If you are going with the expectations of London’s West Ken’s offering you will be majorly disappointed, but on face value, €5 for an adult and children, it’s a cheap and interesting chance to see something different whilst in Lille even if it has a eerie undertone .. especially seeing the birds section 😟

Rubbish
Feb 2020
I thought 5€ was cheap to get in, but this is rubbish. Animals are models, no skeletons or anything worth seeing. Save your 5€ and visit something else

Lots of Birds, Live Insects
Nov 2019 • Couples
If you like to see multiple species of birds up close then you are in for a treat!
We spent a few hours in here looking at all of the exhibits and playing with the interactive animal face masks.
We learnt about the history of the earth at the Dinosaur/ Fossil end of the building.
The live insects were fun to spot!
Some people were sketching the exhibits which is a great idea if you have time. It is not a huge place and was a little expensive in my opinion. Overall could do with a little tlc but informative fun can be had.

One of saddest places on earth
Oct 2019 • Family
It's old, as in over 200 years and it looks like they did little or no renovating throughout it's existence. I can't help feeling sad during and after visiting this place. The kids weren't bored for at least an hour, that's worth something, isn't it?

A lovely little museum, a little way out from the centre but worth a visit.
Disabled level access at the back, but only to the main floor.

Small, quaint but still relevant to today
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is a quirky museum with cases and cases of stuffed animals and birds which are quite disconcerting (all over 100 years old) but the museum also has a lot of information about evolution, fossils and endangered species all displayed in clever and modern displays between the Victorian cases.

While we visited there were two school classes visiting and the children were fascinated.

We happily spent over two hours looking at everything and really enjoyed it. An improvement for foreign visitors would have been a leaflet with translated information but fortunately the animal and bird names were also displayed in Latin so we looked up animals and birds we weren’t familiar with on Google.

Well worth visiting.

Quite a collection

Although not too vast, this museum offers collections of species of birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, and fishes. Definitely worth spending an hour or so.
