This old gate is one of three still standing, surrounding Old Ville as part of the old wall defences that were once present.

As others have said this is worth a visit if your going to, or from, the Beffroi de Lille.
The Porte de Paris is one of the gates of the ancient walls of the city of Lille. Rebuilt in the late 17th century it is a triumphal arch to celebrate the victories of Louis XIV in annexing Lille.
You get lovely views of it from the Beffroi de Lille - do that first then spend sometime wandering around the Porte.

Good landmark and nice landscaped gardens beneath it. Referenced in paintings about Lille when hot air balloon exhibition took place

The Porte de Paris is locate at the south end of the city but well worth the walk, lovely mini arch check out both sides as its different, watch out for the lions.

Strange to find such a porte in the middle of an area with somewhat more modern buildings around. It is quite a nice contrast though, and the porte is not the kind of monument you see elsewhere in Lille. Definitely worth a visit.

It's right next to the belfry at the Town Hall so worth a look, particularly in the early morning sun.

We started our self guided walk here at the Porte de Paris.
Built by Louis XIV in 1692 to celebrate him conquering the city and as such it is an Arch of Triumph. Architecturally quite lovely.

This late XVII century "porte" which according to history was built under the reign of King Louis XIV to celebrate his own victories is very nice to look at. It is said to have an Arc du Triomphe touch and the truth is it stands equally proud.

Nice historic monument worth seeing it and go through. Good photo opportunity- better from Belfry tower.
