About
The city of Le Mans is labeled "City of Art and History". This implies that the city commit's itself into the animation of its heritage. The Tourism and Heritage Service aswell as the Tourist Office are therefore keen to create awarkers of the audience through guided tours and educational activities. The guides-lecturers who supervise those activities are licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Communication as a result of a demanding aptitude test. The city stand as candidate for World Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO classification). One one-hand modern and on the other hand proud of its past, both open and radiant, the city will delight you with its outstanding lifestyle and its rich historical heritage. Located in the heart of town, Rue de l'Etoile, in front of Jacobins Shopping Center, near Le Mans Cathedral and the historic town, the Tourist Office is open from Monday to Saturday, from am to 10am to 6pm. (close between 1.30pm and 2.30pm from Monday to Friday)

We called in to the Office du tourisme, the beautiful and friendly woman was so enthusuastic, and gave us a couple of very useful maps, and directed us to the Cathedral.

Walking tour

I went on a walking tour of the Plantagenet area organised by the tourist department. It was in French but the lady was very clear and easy to follow. She was very enthusiastic, and it was an interesting experience.

We had a lot of questions which were answered quickly and friendly. We also wanted into about next years race. We were given plans, parking suggestions and other help. Well worth stopping!

We got lost

After walking for ages we finally found the tourist office which had been previously described as an old red pillared building. The tourist office we found was very modern and definitely not red!
Anyway the staff were very attentive and spoke English. We were given lots of maps and things that we see during our stay.
Overall a good experience.

Can't say enough that is positive for the staff who manned the center while we visited, or the beautiful facility in which it resides. The hosts are all multi-lingual and ready to help with any and all needs. We received many suggestions on sights to see, as well as wonderful recommendations for restaurants to visit. Would use this facility again without any hesitation.

Located next to the river lovely views but, very hot. Lots of information eg leaflets for local activities. Is closed at lunchtime.

Extremely helpful staff who spokeexcellent English

As our visit to France coincided with the fuel shortages and blockades, we visited the tourist office to ask for assistance in finding petrol stations that had fuel. The lovely lady who served us was able to find a website (Essence) which gave us exactly the information we needed and helped us to plan our route to ensure that we didn't run out of fuel as we were travelling by motorbike. I can highly recommend the staff in this office, they were very helpful and very pleasant, for which we were extremely grateful.
