David D'Angers was not a sculptor that I had heard of prior to visiting Angers, but having gone round this gallery - and also had a chance to view his work elsewhere- I came to appreciate his talent. He completed numerous works for the Pantheon in Paris, but my favourite works in this gallery were his medals of then famous... More

Amazing waht they have done with this old church, the mod run roofing is fantasic and allows the light in the see the wonderful statues. It is not a massive collection which is nice as you don't have time to get bored, but a lot of them are massive which is fantastic. Do not miss this exhibition of David 's... More

This is a remarkable museum. A medieval church has been repurposed as the perfect place for artist David d'Angers's monumental sculpture. The glass roof lets in gorgeous light that shows off the sculpture to great advantage. A great showcase for dazzling art as well as a unique look at a medieval religious building.

We wouldn't have paid to go it, but got in free (sort of) with our 24 hour City Pass. Once inside, we were impressed by the art on show, all the was of the eponymous sculpture.

Pierre-Jean David of Angers was born in 1788 and this collection of his sculpture includes seemingly everyone who was famous in his lifetime. The quality of his work is to the non-expert almost equivalent to Michelangelo. There are many large statues, together with hundreds of drawings, medallions, busts, and even his pediment of the Pantheon in Paris. In plaster, bronze... More

Situated in an interesting building, the stone works within are amazing. Such detail! Well worth a look around, and no charge if you have bought the City Pass

Stumbled across this gallery on a wet afternoon as we went in search of the cathedral. Had never heard of David d'Angers, but the statues and drawings that he'd created were fascinating and all beautifully exhibited in the ruined church that had been cleverly restored and put to good use.

David d'Angers was an artist with a vision, a heart, and an intellect. The pieces here will tantalize and excite the historian and humanist in you. Definitely a gem. Would love to return again. Tip: Be prepared to leave your backpack/purse/etc. at the front desk. No flash photography.
