Don't miss it.

I was really surprised when I turned the corner and there it was. The flying buttresses are massive and unique. If you're in Senlis, do not miss this architectural beauty.

There are so many old cathedrals in France you almost start to think that you don't need to see another. But they are not all the same and the Notre Dame Senlis is no exception. It is so good and a mix of architectural styles set in a medieval village that is still so evident today. Magnificent statues and ornaments... More

We were camping nearby at a place called Guignicourt and decided to take the train into Laon. Easy fast journey on the ever excellent SNCF. On arrival at Laon followed the signs to "Cite Medeival". A long steep climb which could have been avoided had we found the funicular railway (more of this later). The old city is very attractive... More

A magnificent medieval cathedral that has fallen into disrepair...still worth a trip as is the charming town in which it sits.

Superb building, full of light and very serene. Dominates the city. Avoid the google suggested route from the lower town (esp. Etap), meanders through a 'council estate' and up some dubious, very difficult rocky path. Take the longer route or find some transport. The cathedral was worth the visit though. From the Ibis hotel the nearby Carrefour was very pleasant... More

Saw several Gothic buildings on this trip, each with its own character. This one was particularly friendly and charming with sculptured animals peering out from the towers (which you can climb for better view of the city and cathedral)

This cathedral was built piecemeal and so is a composite of many styles and is very interesting. Sits on a pleasant square in the middle of the village. Parking nearby, plenty of H spaces. Famous organ.

A rather plain cathedral, but worth visiting if you are in Laon. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, however, as it lacked the beautiful windows that I love to see.

One thing that strikes you about france and europe is that the old towns are so well preserved to reflect their historical glory, and cathedrals are always the centeal part of it.This cathedral gives a sense of peace which it is built to give, but more interesting is the walk around the town, looking at those wonderful french windows, walking...
