We were staying in Bordeaux and debating where to go to see the ocean. We had several people suggest La Rochelle and I'm glad we went. The area near the marina and waterfront is very interesting. Lots of shops and little restaurants. Also a walk...More

This is a must see in La Rochelle and really pretty. There's tons of outdoor bars and seating so find a cafe, watch the sunset and sip a (slightly expensive) drink. It's worth the view. Cafe in the morning or afternoon is not expensive and...More

Wonderful restaurants, beautiful arch covered shopping streets, with shops ranging from top-end fashions to and fabulous place to spend a day watching the world go by as you eat delicious ice-creams. It is very popular with French tourists and even out of season is busy...More

Beautiful and unspoilt town. An abundance of cafés and bars. Surprising number of clothes shops make for an interesting place to keep 'him and her' happy. Explore these streets to find your own surprises from a parasol dressed market to specialist booze merchants. One word...More

It was just a half day stop in La Rochelle but we really enjoyed the beautiful of the old harbor and the old town. Nice place to have lunch, some drinks, and a good walk.

The port has nice little restaurants and is in walking distance from the apartment. We only stayed one night but would definitely come back to explore more.
