Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This beach is the closest to the town - about 10 minutes walk from the old port. The sand is fine and pale and is cleaned every day, but there are rocks and rough stones in the sea making it unsuitable for swimming. I believe it's an artificial beach, not that that made any difference to us. It's quite peaceful and easy to find a quiet spot to sit, and there are shops and toilets nearby.

Found this beach when walking round La Rochelle and was pleasantly surprised. It's only a few minutes walk from the main city centre and although busy in August gave my wife and I a few hours break from the hustle and bustle of the harbour area. The beach was clean and had some catering facilities nearby and the water reasonably warm to go for a paddle!

Very nice beach, beautiful sand as we like, ideal for playing with children. On the other hand, in low tide (and even higher), pay close attention to rocks because they slip and are extremely sharp!

If your travelling on a large cruise ship, chances are you'll dock at the industrial terminal about 4 miles away. Most cruise ships call this stop Bordeaux but it is actually a 2 hour bus ride away. Carnival offered free port shuttle busses from the ship to the drop off immediately beside Plage de la Concurrence in La Rochelle at the All du Mail turnaround. It took about 10 minutes as it weaved through the industrial port buildings.
From here, it is a short 5 minute walk to the central marina district in La Rochelle which is surrounded by eateries and shops. Even better, near the stop is a great bicycle rental shop called Cylco Parc. You can rent a bike here and explore the area as it is chocked full of dedicated cycle paths or you can bike down the Plage de la Concurrence which has a beautiful dedicated bike lane. The beach is wide and beautiful if your just looking to relax and lay out and there is a small vendor that offers umbrella and chair rental near his snack bar. Behind the beach is a beautiful little Park called Parc Charles Edouard that has a small zoo which is free along with some inexpensive carnival rides for the kids.
No need to pay for an expensive excursion when this area offers so much to see and do by supporting the local economy.

The beach at La Rochelle was very nice when we visited and I was highly impressed. It’s not the biggest beach but it was nice and clean and the white golden sand was beautiful. I didn’t venture too much into the sea as the tide was out but we had a great time

This beach has a friendly family feel, with a gently shelving beach ideal for playing boules, reading a book, or having a dip. The beach is 10 minutes from the port, close to the centre of La Rochelle. There is a cafe and restaurant, also great views of the Tour de la Lanterne.
