When I studied in southern France in 1979, I asked the locals for the best place to buy santons. I was told Fouque over and over (and for many reasons such as quality, price and craftmanship.) I've been back a few times and have loved the tiny shop, the wonderful displays and, most of all, seeing the santons being hand-painted... More

We had heard of these ceramic figures and decided to visit, We were fortunate to have the chance to see how these are made, a fascinating process. Such an exquisite art form!

In December I visited Aix and had the chance to purchase a few more santons, a collection I started in 1967. On our way out of Aix on our way to Arles, we passed by this workshop. The woman who greeted us was married to the 4th generation Fouque santon makers. She was very nice and spoke perfect English. We were able to go in the workshop to see the artisans working and there were santons on display and for sale.

Our group was able to visit the workshop and had a wonderful explanation of how the santons are made. This shop has been in the same family for four generations.
