We drove to the bridge rather than walking. Considering the heat that day, it was likely a wise decision. Our timing was impeccable. We had the bridge practically to ourselves and had time and tranquility to imagine Van Gogh studying the bridge before beginning his...More

Beautiful. Black timber drawbridge against the verdant landscape. It is quite a trek on foot from the centre of Arles so the best way is probably by car, or bicycle. We were one energetic couple and walked to it through the farm. We came with...More

It's a good 30 - 40 mins walk from Arles to here along the canal bank but worth it. Obviously quicker by car.

It was the end of a long day but still dry with a weather forecast promising rain the the morrow so we decided to make the effort to find the bridge. I had the address but it was still hard to follow our gps instructions....More

visit if you have time left after visiting the numerous unesco sites of Arles. the bridge of interest is indeed quite unique and must be pretty sturdy to last until now and still standing. it was considerate of the tourism pple to put up the...More

Frankly I do not recommend to visit this unless you are a big fan of Van Gogh. Especially without a car/bike, you will have to pass through an industrial area and walk like forever to get there.

Stumbled on this while seeking somewhere to picnic, saw a signpost then realised what it was. It is not the actual bridge in the painting but a reasonable copy in the same, very unprepossessing rural location by the river to the south of Arles, not...More

Not an attractive area. Not "well-groomed." Never the less, there is a spiritual aura as you view the bridge. When we were there about a half dozen other people came and went. Conversation was minimal. We all just wanted to transport ourselves to the time...More

The bridge is one of many connections in Arles to Van Gogh. After seeing the collection of the Van Gogh Foundation in old town Arles, this was a natural side trip. Surroundings have more mature vegetation and the canal/waterway/locks have altered the setting, but still...More

Approximately 3km outside the town, the bridge is reached by a walk along a road next to the canal. Well signed from Arles centre. The canal route is bordered by a main road one side and some industry on the other, so not a typical...More
