Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sadly we did not have time to see the whole of this museum. We concentrated on the contemporary art which was very well laid out and interesting. On the date of our visit at the end of August the museum was not very busy, it is quiet and cool and a very pleasant way to spend an hour or two. The staff were without exception helpful, proactive and charming.

I really enjoyed this museum, tucked in on one of the cobble streets of Avignon. If you like contemporary art and want a break from the busy, touristy locations in Avignon, step in and visit this collection. After you are done, you can have a refreshment in the beautiful interior garden.

I found this museum to be really refreshing and curated in a very interesting way, that gave me a little excited buzz prior to walking into the next room.
Many highlights, however I won't spoil your anticipation with too much detail.
I comfortably 'experienced' Collection Lambert in 90 minutes.

Very disappointing compared to similar places I've visited. It's hard to justify paying 12 euro to see it. I was advised one floor was closed due to a new exhibition being prepared and another floor was now permanently closed. The Le Palais des Papers charges E13 and offers so much more.

The Collection Lambert was the highlight of our trip to Avignon. At the moment it is hosting a joint exhibition with the Palais des Papes called 'Les Papesses'. It is the most wonderfully, carefully curated exhibition looking at the sculpture of Camille Claudel alongside radical new works by Jana Sterbak, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Kiki Smith and an excellent selection of works by Louise Bourgeois. It is quite something to see this feminist riposte to the city of Popes as it were.
Some of the works are extremely moving and the positioning and hanging of the works is exemplary. Upstairs in the attic rooms you can find the documentation surrounding Claudel's incarceration in a psychiatric hospital - haunting, horrific and extremely thought provoking.
Tip: your tickets are only valid for one day so be sure to avoid paying twice and make time to visit both exhibition sites - at the Collection Lambert and at the Palais des Papes. I recommend going to the Palais des Papes first, then the more intimate Collection Lambert and if you time your trip carefully you could then have lunch in the brasserie in the courtyard of the Collection Lambert. 'Les Papesses' runs until November.

Not far from the Rakin Museum of Nature you will find the Lumber Collection, a contemporary art museum, which includes over 550 works of art purchased by renowned art collector Yvonne Lamber and donated to the museum by him. His complete collection includes over 1200 works of art, so he has donated about half to the museum. The museum's exhibitions include works by more than 110 artists, including Alice Anderson, Jason Dodge, Jean-Michel Basquia and more.
For lunch, you can sit in the museum restaurant.
Admission is reasonable. Children 5 and under come in for free.
Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sundays 11am to 6pm, July-August daily 11am to 7pm.
How long should you visit? Between half an hour and an hour.

We liked this gallery because the art was so accessible. Some contemporary art can be a bit pretentious, and having been to the contemporary gallery in Nimes the day before, we were slightly cautious. (We nicknamed that gallery 'The Gallery of Pretentious Bollocks).
Bright, modern building with friendly room attendants.
A slightly confusing layout, and we ended going round backwards, but we enjoyed it all.

A really interesting set of exhibitions, fresh, interesting. A definite must in Avignon. There is also a lovely garden cafe.

I came to the wonderful restaurant Le Violette next door, in the courtyard of Collection Lambert, was intrigued by the "sign art" on the building and the outdoor installations, visible from my table, so decided to visit here. Yes, €10 is a little steep for a maze of exhibit halls, and I understand there are renovations, but it truly didn't bother me. Unlike some other French galleries, here staff are super friendly, and some, amazingly, even speak some English, as besides the two temporary exhibitions, the signage under the rest of the actual exhibits was in French only, and that is disappointing for a Festival participating gallery that happily takes rather high tourist dollar. Two very good temporary exhibitions on at the moment, Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, using contemporary images of us today, whilst utilising the decoupage technique, to reproduce some of the Great Italian masters, really impressive even to an atheist. The legends and myths made up of us, contemporary humans - strangely moving. Basquiat, Matisse and Picasso exhibition was curated in a really interesting way - I am not a huge fan of all of them, besides Matisse, but I really enjoyed some of the juxtapositions here. Well worth the visit, and whilst there do not miss the fantastic Le Violette restaurant (unconnected to the museum per se), with exemplary service (in English and other languages too) and wonderful food.

They were celebrating their 20th anniversary of exhibits - so they displayed highlights of the last 20 years. Many of the exhibits were very interesting.
We found out that when you enter the 1st museum in Avignon you get a passport for reduced entry to the other museums in town. They give you a pamphlet that explains the museums and reduced prices.
