What a vibrant place this is! There were always people having dinner at the various (excellent) restaurants. Street performers - from 'living statues' to gypsy singers appeared daily. It was fun watching small children (and their parents) enjoying the merry-go-round. Everyone was having fun, the...More

Great city center with lots of people watching while dining at its many bistros. A bit overpriced, but you are paying to be in the center of activity. There are many great restaurants in Avignon, but the plazas end up being pricier due to locale.

One of the things I love about Europe are plaza filled with cafes for people watching. Here's the deal...it's fun to sit and have a drink and watch the world go by but the cafes are def overpriced. But hey, you are on vacation so...More

Lined with restaurants serving average meals, the Hotel de Ville, Theatre d'Avignon, the old Banque de France building , lots of hotels, and the ever present Carousel this was a place to walk through, not linger in -- unless you are desperately hungry and would...More

A beautiful square full of pavement cafes & enhanced by a real old-fashioned carousel. Cafe prices are a lot cheaper in other streets though!

This is a crowed square with many average al fresco restaurants scattered about. No standout architecture or high quality locations to dine or people watch.

Avignon is a small city by comparison with Paris but not as crowded, at least not during Festival Time, easy to walk and with a well defined center where the theater and Merry Go Round share time and space. There are several restaurants lining the...More

Most of the restaurants offer the same fare and at similar prices. Square is dominated by the impressive Hotel De Ville. On a fine day would be most enjoyable however not so much went the wind is blowing a gale
