- MrSmitcherTacoma, Washington578 contributionsA must-see on the coast . . .One of the best open markets in Provence. When tourist season kicks up it probably gets more crowded, but in April there was plenty of space for us to do our daily fruit shopping and practice my french. Plus, it's a great site to sit with a tea & people watch . . .Visited April 2023Written 29 April 2023
- Diana RBirch Run, Michigan2,055 contributionsWonderful marketWe visited this market on our recent trip to the French Riviera. Lots of vendors, everything looked so fresh and good. I bought some blackberries and some macarons. My daughter got some candied fruit. Everything was just so good! We both recommend this market. It was our favorite of the ones we went to.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 August 2023

Everything local and home produced , stark contrast to our mass produced , all look the same fruit and veg back home . The local farmers simply pick that morning and sell same day , all looked vibrant and appetising.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 August 2023

very nice small market. slightly touristy, so I'd expect even worse quality & higher prices in summer.

Busy marketplace but during the high season seems to be geared more towards tourists as it was saturated with tourists and nearly impossible to walk thru the whole market. Ok to see but best to avoid during the high season/summer.

My husband and I spend three weeks touring around the south of France to places where we'd been before, but wanted to visit again. We remembered fondly how great the Marche provencal in Antibes was, so we intentionally went back to revisit. And the second visit was just as fantastic as the one 15 years earlier...even better.
The market has ever kind of produce, meat, cheese and flower imaginable in France. The merchants that work these stalls know their stuff...and have been doing it for years (the spice merchant that we purchased from again this time was actually there 15 years ago, and while she probably didn't remember us, we clearly remembered her...she's great!!!).
Even if you're not in the market for fresh items, just wanting through the stalls is an education. Who knew there were so many different kinds of tomatoes or olives or spices!?!? It's like a hands on class in food preparation!!
The market is free and runs until about 1-ish, so make sure that you're there early in the morning or you'll miss out. Oh, and make sure you pick up a Socca (chick pea tortilla) for 3€ at the booth at the end...they're fantastic!!

Here you can see not only vegetables and fruits grown mainly in the same region and looking as if they were plucked from a tree or a garden bed just this morning. Local cheeses are also sold there, mostly goat cheeses. And amazing meat products, mostly raw smoked…And sets of "Herbes de Provence", both traditional, which are used in vegetable dishes, and specialized for meat, fish, pizza, etc ... And what a smell of lavender! And an incredible number of varieties of olives, and the famous olive oil, without which it is impossible to imagine Provencal cuisine…

It's every day ! Best thing is the TER (regional) trains run very regularly. It's a short walk to town. May I suggest walking along the port and take in all the beautiful yachts ? Then enter Antibes through the big stone wall. Have fun !

Hi,
We are going for 2 weeks to Antibes (here we are likely to mostly cook at home) and wanted to see if you have other recommendations for food shopping. Would you have suggestions other than Marche Provincal?
Thank you very much
