About
If you're looking for a quiet getaway, check out Île Sainte-Marguerite, just a 15-minute ferry ride from Cannes. Here, you can hike along the lush walking trails, or go on a snorkeling adventure to explore the underwater museum on the seabed. You can also visit the fort where the mysterious "Man in the Iron Mask" was once imprisoned. Food on the island can be a bit pricey, so consider bringing a picnic and plenty of water. Take out the stress of planning and explore the island on a sightseeing tour, which typically includes a round-trip ferry ride and guided commentary. – Tripadvisor

    Check out this historic island
Great place to walk and see history. The historical buildings and walking paths/trails are a thing to see. They have a beach area you can hang out on. They have a couple of restaurants. They do have public restrooms also. Though a lot of people are one the ferry, once you are on the island it is not crowded.

    Lovely island but very busy!
Absolutely beautiful place to swim and snorkel and to enjoy the gorgeous island. We took a stroll around and then stopped at a small cove. It was lovely, but extremely busy, the boats can’t come right to shore as the underwater museum is protected, but it’s still very busy. Finding a little cove is perfect, but it’s unlikely to be close to the beach.

Great morning out on a visit to Cannes
We took the ferry from Cannes over around 10 in the morning and had a nice short crossing. As expected the island was busy but is big enough to find quiet areas due to the numerous walks and paths available. We visited the prison museum which was good value and interesting to see the cells that such ilustrious prisoners as the man in the iron mask were held. We also had a lovely dip in the sea on one of the beaches at the far side of the island, just make sure to take beach/surf shoes as plenty of rocks to walk over before you get to the sea which does have a sandy bottom.

Was ok for an hour or 2. The museum and port were interesting. But other that not much to do. We got dropped off at 10 and picked up at 6pm. Beaches a little disappointing.

Snorkelling is not any better than mainland areas. The walks are nice but not worth the cost and the ferry schedule is quite poor considering it is summer… even at 1:30 to come home…massive lines and ferry only comes every one hour. And it’s late anyway. Not great for families.

We didn't have the best experience visiting the island, though it could have been slightly better if we were more organised!

If you like to go swimming I would suggest to take towels and swimwear. Apparently there are lots of coves on the island but we didn't see any - however, the beaches were quite nice.

We were very disappointed to pay 6.50 euros each to go into the old fort as there really wasn't much to see. There were a few cannons but not much information. The aquarium was closed (though looked tiny anyway) and we found the museum in the old prison a real waste of time. There is hardly any information on the Man in the Iron Mask and the Iron Mask itself is not there, just a room he was imprisoned in which has not been recreated. There were lots of vases and cannisters saved from a shipwreck but to be honest there are only so many clay vases you can look at - would be more interesting to see other artifacts!
There wasn't a detailed map of this area either so it wasn't clear what all the buildings were - we discovered most of them were accommodation for children on school trips.

For food, there is a kiosk when you first arrive and then there are some higher class restaurants on the seafront, we didn't see the prices for these but they looked more expensive than your average bar. Lots of people took picnics which we wished we had done!

Sainte Marguerite Island is a beautiful island. We walked around the perimeter of the whole island, through the pine and Eucalyptus trees. The little bays are ideal for swimming so don’t forget your costume. There is an underwater museum that you can snorkel to. Amazing! We took a picnic too, there are lots of little picnic tables dotted around.

We didn’t visit the museum but the pictures look great. The restaurants are lovely; delicious food and drinks. The ferry was every hour which was convenient. See the photos for more information. This is an island for everyone; couples, families, people old and young will love exploring it.

A short ferry away from Cannes, this beautiful island has nature hikes, a small lake and a 17th century prison where the Man in the Iron Mask was held. It also has a memorial for the six Huguenot ministers who were persecuted by the Catholics.

ferry ride was very quick but as soon as we got off we didn't know where to go as we didn't know where to get a map. we wanted to swim but the first beach we came to after a while was so rocky it was sore to walk. though after walking some more we found a beach that was perfect for swimming, more pebbly/sandy and not sore at all - we had an amazing day after that
