The museum feels like it needs a bit of care and attention and the work in it feels like it has just been cobbled together to cash in on the name. Make sure you bring ID for under 18s because the woman on the desk made us pay for our son because we had no proof that he was 17.

Loved the exhibits but I can see why some visitors were not that impressed. Unfortunately most of the famous Matisse paintings are in galleries around the world and not in his home town, Nice. But his graphic, cut-out period is well represented along with a few paintings and sketches which give an insight into how his style developed over the... More

The number 15 bus will get you right there and if you have the week pass to local city run art galleries/museums I guess you are getting your money's worth. Don't expect to see any English or other language than French. I know, this is France, but Nice has a huge number of tourists and it would have meant a... More

Take the bus up the hill and enjoy the grounds and the museum. The roman ruins are quite interesting as is the exhibition. You don't need all day, it's plenty for most art appreciaters. The walk back down the hill is thru a lovely part of town and you can go by the Chagall museum.

Take bus no 15 from Nice Center to the museum. There is a nice park to stroll in before you enter the museum. The exhibition is very nice and shows a lot of Matisse's work. Well worth a visit. When you buy a ticket, the ticket is valid for 24 hours for a number of others museum. You will get... More

The Museum can be reached from downtown by several buses. They travel up the hill of Cimiez made famous by the 1860-1914 building period. This enabled the construction of a turkish palace with minarettes (right hand side), passes the Chagall Museum (hidden, to the left), and turns right at Queen Victoria's giant summer residence called Le Regina (at the top... Small but well done museum. Naturally, the explanations are primarily in French although you do not need to admire the wonderful works of Matisse! There are some historical explanations in most of the rooms in English. The museum is easily accessible from downtown Nice by bus and there are other sites to visit in the area . Great way to... Despite many reviews of small collections in this museum, I pretty enjoyed a lot. You can see many famous works of Matisse in the other big museums so here's small collection was ok for me as a huge fan of Matisse. However the clerk in the museum shop made my good experience really bad. When I bought some books, she... More

To roam Matisse's home and see his work was an unforgettable experience. We were asked to not take any photograps, and that is completely understandable. This is a great trip to take on a rainy day.

Having seen his exhibition at the Tate gallery we were expecting an interesting visit. His bestbest works are not here, there is little in the way of his history and very few English translations. It is very small and poorly laid out. Not worth the walk up the hill or the 10 Euro entry charge, although the ticket does give you... More
