About
The Marc Chagall national Museum, created during the artist's lifetime, houses the masterly cycle of the Biblical Message. It bears witness to the great diversity of the painter's artistic practices. Paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics as well as stained glass, tapestry and mosaics, constitute a unique body of work where technical virtuosity, colourful inventions and a universal message of peace are combined.

    Unkind staff, great exhibition
The staff is weird. The security guy at the door forced me to throw out my water bottle to the trash can though I was ready to put it to a locker or keep it somewhere while visiting the museum. Even pour out the water just keep the bottle. The staff ladies were not helping to solve this, just kept saying ask him. Later I've seen that you can put your bottle down at the entrance but noone adviced me to do that. So overall a bit bad experience. The exhibition itself is informative, nice and worth to visit.

    For Chagall Enthousiasts
This museum is quite unique in the sense that it’s the only museum in the world which contains the largest public collection of Marc Chagall’s works and therefore is ideal and perfect for Chagall fans. But otherwise, it’s a bit small and limited as a museum. It’s not located in walking distance to other tourist destinations. We came here by foot and it was a tiring experience both in terms of duration and trajectory. So I recommend to opt other ways than walking in coming here. The museum’s management looks a bit weak here both in terms of maintenance and customer care. Yet the chef d’oeuvres of Chagall compensate for all the negative aspects. Last but not least the museum café: though it’s a delightful place in the midst of the gardens, the management here as well was awful from service to offerings, what a pity…

    Beautiful paintings with Bible inspiration
I just had to give this 5 stars because of the beauty of the colours in the beautiful collection of this painters art. Taken from inspiration in the Bible Monsieur Chagall beautifully presented these. About 2 hours here at least to appreciate the beauty of this museum

    Enjoyed seeing Chagall’s works
We were glad we took the time to go to the Chagall Museum, since it is quite far from the city center. His work of color, and the incorporation of biblical stories was amazing. We did not realize it but it seems that the museum closes from noon to two. We were able to make it in for 35 minutes before the closing.

    Extensive displays of Chagall artwork
Extensive displays of Chagall art work. Near to a bus route into the centre of Nice. I would advise going in the morning as it is quieter. When we left wthere were queues to get in. There is an outside cafe with a limited selection of food.

Smaller than anticipated, but still great
As it is the national museum, I thought it would be huge with mountains of art. Nope. I saw an exhibition in Madrid years ago that had many more paintings, at least twice as much. It was great. Nonetheless, there are more than enough to elicit plenty of oohs and ahs and some top notch pieces here that made the visit more than worthwhile. I liked the stained glass windows in the auditorium for musical performances and I guess, lectures. It was good enough to make me take three circuits of the museum and I would have stayed longer, but my wife was not feeling well and I wanted to hurry back to the hotel to check up on her. Besides, I thought I’d come back with her, but we never made it. For me, any Chagalls are better than no Chagalls, as he is my favorite artist. The incredible use of color and the dreamy nature of his art evokes some sort of emotion in me that’s a mixture of rapture and wistfulness. And a sense of hope and loss at the same time. I like many artists, but no one makes me feel the way he does. If you love him, too, this place is a reason to visit Nice all on its own.

    Absolutely stunning
To be able to see Chagall paintings in real life in a space that he himself was involved in designing. Watch the film and plan for enough time to be able really sit down and look at the paintings. Give yourself enough time to enjoy it all as well as the garden.

    Wonderful collection
This is an amazing collection of some of Marc Chagalls most impressive works.my daughter and I really loved it. There’s also a bonus right now, a room with paintings paired to beautiful fragrances. You sit in a chair, dip a scent paper into the fragrance then enjoy both the painting as well as the scent. I highly recommend this museum in Nice.

    Immersive art experiences
A most unusual museum with amazing works of art. The 50th anniversary celebration included mixed art experiences - art with music, art with fragrances and art with writing. It was simply stunning and an immersive experience. The caliber of the art and the history behind it it will take your breath away, a must visit in Nice!

    Great Little Museum
The Chagall Museum in Nice provides a great experience. Wonderful exhibition; it's not huge / overwhelming. Can easily be fully enjoyed in an hour to 1 and 1/2 hours. Reception area staff very accommodating in calling for a taxi; if you don't speak French.

The entire experience was ruined by the staff. Rude, aggressive, bossy. Their behaviour was so upsetting that I could not enjoy the visit at all.

In the context of December ‘23 the security was elevated and this was a bit of a hassle. Line for the entrance and bag check, line for the tickets and line again for the museum per se. the paintings are the largest and most with t(e religious theme. Do not expect a huge place, it’s rather small. A very interesting sensoria’s experience.

This is a superb small museum with some outstanding works by Chagall. His vivid paintings come to life in the museum, which should be a top site to visit if you are in Nice. We took a taxi there from our hotel as it is somewhat off the beaten track. We waited and waited at the taxi stand after our visit, but no one showed up, so we finally called an Uber, which came right away. I note this because it is a fairly long walk to trams and trains.

Positive - beautiful stained glass and paintings. Could walk to museum from station . Not large exhibit at all so not too overwhelming.

Poor - attitude of staff. Not flexible at all ! Wouldn’t allow hire of headphones without ID .. passport or driving licence. Wish they’d advertised this as would have come

Funny about use of lockers . (Only for groups they said)

There was a film show about Chagall .. looked really good but missed half as no one explained it only ran at 11am .

One room cordoned off .. wierd as no explanation . Left to peer round cordon to view!

Very unkind and really made us feel rubbish. We walked up a big hill in the heat and were told it was closed despite the website saying it was open. There were lots of people inside in the gardens and restaurants. We asked could we just do that. Then they said our bags were too big. So as we had spare carriers and they were going into lockers anyway we tried to do that. They said it was not possible, even though our bags fit into the locker slot. They were incredibly rude on the last day of our holiday. Really regret wasting the time trying to get there. We weren't wearing any rugby/team merchandise and I'd studied Chagall so really wanted to see his works. Suggest doing Matisse instead if you choose one - much nicer.

The stained glass was beautiful but I’ve seen bigger Chagall exhibits elsewhere. had to wait in line outside to get in. Unless you are a huge Chagall fan I wouldn’t make this the first museum stop in Nice. also, the “perfume room” display has signage saying it was closed daily 12-2, but I was there at 11 & it was already closed without explanation.
