Old Town
About
This historic part of Nice feels like a medieval village with narrow streets curving between old buildings with red-tile roofs, small restaurants and open-markets.

Love these old towns in Europe
Very nice old town in Nice, really enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere of area. Beautiful buildings with different types of building some with a lovely yellow, orange. Along with the narrow street, laneways, shops. Restaurants and bars makes it a must old town to explore.

A mixture of the old and the new!
We have been to Nice several times and have new experiences each time. Just walking in the old town is fascinating. Going into the churches and small museums that are often overlooked is wonderful. People are friendly and the food is French fantastic!

    BEAUTIFUL MILD TORTURE
The "Old City" is one of the main reasons to visit beautiful Nice, which is VERY hilly. One should bring along their legs of steel ! For those who love swimming or the Mediterranean, PLEASE know this : there is NO SAND ! That, to me, and many others, is something to consider. While usually smooth, these pebbles continue into the water of course. Many "locals" buy special shoes for the beach or swimming. It is , however, great to look at. Just be aware. Many beaches in Europe are like this. For those of us who love the smooth feel of sand, as it is present in SO many other places, this can feel like a form of mild torture !

A must do in Nice regardless of the # of tourists
Absolutely beautiful area of Nice. Lots of charm and many good restaurants... but also many tourist traps so be aware. I can't give it a 5 stars rating because it is INCREDIBLY crowded. People walk on each other in the summer. Still, it's a must in Nice.

A great way to spend the day
Nice market in the old town and the Little train that runs from the promenade to the top of the hill is well worth a visit. This quaint little market has so much to offer and is great for browsing. The Little train is a great way to see Nice as it takes you along the picturesque promenade up to the highest point (900m) above Nice from the old fort. At the top there is a cafe and opportunity for photos.

    Authentic and timeless
Such an authentic, timeless area of Nice which truly represents the french/ Italian influences. The buildings are beautiful and considering it is 'old town' we found it to be clean and well looked after (as opposed to other cities such as Gothic Quater Barcelona). There's lots of hidden shops and restaurants which aren't on the budget side but are very sweet and great for people watching. You could honestly get lost in the beauty of the small alleyways and streets.

    An Italian Flavor
This is where I like to spend time. The area is not huge, so you can wander and see almost all of it in a short amount of time. The streets are narrow, usually lacking traffic, so it is peaceful. Wonderful architecture, echoing the Italian era. And you can do some shopping or sit in a cafe.

Get Lost in the Old Town
We criss-crossed the old town many times, occasionally getting lost in the dozens of narrow streets. Such a lot to see, including museums, cafés, municipal buildings, music spots and more. It was the first sunny day for a while, so a lot of people about but never seemed that crowded. Could spend hours here .. and we did.

    A great place to explore
Love the old town, could walk around it for days without getting bored. Somewhere to stop off and grab lunch or enjoy a delicious glass of wine. Plenty of little shops to explore. A perfect way to waste a few hours or days.

Get off the tram at the Cathédrale - Vieille Ville stop and go through the Porte Fausse. You're suddenly in a different world away from the modern city in a maze of narrow streets and pastel-coloured buildings. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants and don't miss the cathedral and Place Rossetti. A lovely area to explore for a few hours.

I stayed here in an air bnb, it was a great place to stay. There's lots of little shops and plenty of restaurants (I recommend L'epicerie Georges). There are also lots of coffee and ice cream places.

The location is also great to travel, with Place Grimaldi close so easy access to the airport. Nice Ville station is around 25 minutes to walk to but is pleasant with a coffee and pastry.

The promenade and market are also short walks. This is a great place to stay during your Nice holiday.

A nice charming experience with narrow cobblestone streets and pastel-hued buildings where shops sell Niçoise soaps and Provençal textiles, plus meats and cheeses. A daily market on pedestrian street Cours Saleya offers produce and flowers, and busy pubs and outdoor eateries serving specialities like socca crepes dot the area.

This is a great Old Town, overflowing with alleys packed with bars, restaurants, and local shops. Just start walking and choosing to go down an interesting walkway. Highly photogenic, we loved it. Things really pick up around 8:00 PM.

Visiting the Old Town of Nice feels like stepping into a fairytale. The narrow streets are lined with beautiful architecture, including stunning baroque-style churches. I was particularly enchanted by Rosetti Square with Fenocchio ice-cream shop 🍦 & Saint Reparate cathedral. It’s the most charming place in the Old Town. A truly magical experience!

Hubby and I headed out of our hotel, to go to Old Town, to see what it was about. We had no plan, and just walked along the Boulevard, and turned up a street in the Old Town section. We came across Rue St. Francoise de Paule, and walked along that. To our surprise, we came across a large street sale of antiques, collectibles, and jewellery, which stretched quite aways. There were so many tables and booths to explore. The sale continued in another area, off that main street. This was held on a Monday, so not sure if it is held just on this day. My hubby went off exploring other streets and the Sea area, while I continued on this street, looking in the lovely 3 souvenir stores. I went back and forth amoungst them, to see what they offered first before buying, and to see if similar items were lesser at one or the other. I later headed along a street looking for lunch and came across the Fontaine du Soleil with the Apollo Statue, which was popular with picture-takers. I wished I had more time to see many more streets of Old Town!

Nice to just wander around the old town. Lots of places to eat and they are all very touristy. Prices seem to be pretty much the same everywhere. Best food and prices were in the side streets rather than in the main squares. The brocante fair was fun to wander around, a glorified car boot sale!

While I think Nice France has a lot to offer, there are probably better places to go. Most of the architecture at sea views are gorgeous. The historic sites are very beautiful and really do leave you captivated. The people are friendly for the most part and engaging. The elevation views are also beautiful and historic. The water is crisp and beautiful to swim in.

However, the food overall is average and costly. I spent more on each dinner than I did for most of my time in Paris and had nowhere near the quality of the food. Same with San Remo where the food was excellent and very delicious for a great value. The bars in Nice are fun but also kind of expensive for where you are.

Crime. From what I saw crime was prevalent in Nice. Multiple times we were almost victims of robbery on casual daylight streets. Or people trying to scam us. I immediately started leaving my valuables at my Airbnb. Then at night… in old nice where the night life lies, there is a place called Le Shapko. I urge you to stay clear of this street if you choose to explore it. My friend and I were victims of a brutal, I mean absolutely brutal attack by the doorman of Le Shapko. An unprovoked attack considering we were not patrons of the bar at all, just on a public street. A police report has been filed but it seems like it is a common occurrence here and not much should change (look at reviews of this place from months, years back). We went to the hospital to find out we had fractured noses and our trip ruined and our medical bills pilling up in America. I would do your research.

Otherwise Nice is a beautiful city but unfortunately I think for the cost you can find better value. I think you can find a safer and more cultural environment. Just do your research thoroughly and closely if you do choose to go and find the best places to stay and places to avoid. Two of my other friends were also mugged in Nice and unfortunately, I will never return anywhere to this place. But if you do, I warn you to do your research and make a very specific itinerary to ensure your safety.

Beautiful area of Nice with lots of windy little atmospheric little streets and alleyways. Lots of nice food shops, craft and clothes shops, and cafes. A great place to find classic Tarte Citron and Tarte Fraise
