Old Town
About
This historic part of Nice feels like a medieval village with narrow streets curving between old buildings with red-tile roofs, small restaurants and open-markets.

Old Town is where the action is
It took my wife and I 4 days of a 7 day trip to Nice to discover that all of the fun places to go and eat were in the old town. We stayed at the Le Negresco (outstanding) but the restaurants around the hotel were lame. We then discovered an area with better quality food by the Le Meridien, from the beach go inward a few blocks. Do a search for La Cuccina to find this area where there are some good restaurants. We ate here a few nights and were kind of disappointed. Then we finally ventured into Old Town, we discovered that that is where the action was. Many good restaurants, many good bars and pubs. Narrow alleys loaded with food and bars and energy....we have three more days here and will spend them in old Town for sure. bon apettit

Nice - a part of France and Italy on the Sea
Nice has many fun cosmopolitan connections beyond the French Riviera. It wasn't always a French city – it once belonged to Italy. But it got its name around 350 BC from the Greeks. The Old Town is a fantastic place to stay. We took the tram to and from the airport. A great town for French and Italian food.

    Favourite place
Our favourite part of Nice, it’s so beautiful and atmospheric. We ate there two nights , out on the old pavement’s, lots and lots of choice . Hard to beat sitting with a glass or two of good French wine surrounded by impressive historic architecture. Very easy to get lost though, we did, and spent a while orientating ourselves ,, as long as you know which way the sea is you will be fine !

    A Lot To See
Our 4 hour cruise ship excursion in Nice was limited but we seem to have made the most of it by concentrating our tour in the old town. Walked the promenade, shopped the open markets and colorful Marche aux Fleurs, viewed the ornate opera house and other beautifully restored buildings (Governor's palace and Palais de Prefecture) and dined at a wonderful French restaurant. I'd say we packed a lot in, in a very short time!!

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Beautiful area! Put on your walking shoes. There is so much to see. The narrow streets, tall building, street side restaurants and everything else is amazing. Make sure you look up, the architecture of the buildings are incredible.

    Old Town Nice
Time had stood still in Vieux Nice(Old Town) in comparison to the plush sea facing edifices of Promenade des Anglais. The Old Town of Nice is made up of tall tenement houses lined up along narrow and shadowed streets. The ground floors are occupied by restaurants, shops, and the galleries of local artists. You can buy everything here, from Provencal spices to hand-made jewelry and cosmetics

Nice place to saunter in Nice
If you like strolling through historic areas, then this will your cup of tea. Is it overwhelming? Honestly, no. Is it pleasant? Yes. Relaxing? Yes. Are there lots of restaurants to have a meal? Yes. Are the Cathedral or the Lescaris Museum spectacular and must dos? No. Will you do it if you visit Nice? Absolutely. No question about it. It’s like asking whether you will walk along the coastal pathway, the Promenade Anglais. Of course, you will. It’s par for the course. What makes Nice special is that the overall package is remarkably appealing. Old Town is an integral part of that package.

A mixture of the old and the new!
We have been to Nice several times and have new experiences each time. Just walking in the old town is fascinating. Going into the churches and small museums that are often overlooked is wonderful. People are friendly and the food is French fantastic!

    BEAUTIFUL MILD TORTURE
The "Old City" is one of the main reasons to visit beautiful Nice, which is VERY hilly. One should bring along their legs of steel ! For those who love swimming or the Mediterranean, PLEASE know this : there is NO SAND ! That, to me, and many others, is something to consider. While usually smooth, these pebbles continue into the water of course. Many "locals" buy special shoes for the beach or swimming. It is , however, great to look at. Just be aware. Many beaches in Europe are like this. For those of us who love the smooth feel of sand, as it is present in SO many other places, this can feel like a form of mild torture !

Love the old town, could walk around it for days without getting bored. Somewhere to stop off and grab lunch or enjoy a delicious glass of wine. Plenty of little shops to explore. A perfect way to waste a few hours or days.

We criss-crossed the old town many times, occasionally getting lost in the dozens of narrow streets.
Such a lot to see, including museums, cafés, municipal buildings, music spots and more.
It was the first sunny day for a while, so a lot of people about but never seemed that crowded.
Could spend hours here .. and we did.

I've been touring Italy and France for a month and Nice's old town ranks as a favorite. It has spice shops, meat markets, soap shops, nice cafe options... Great option for a stroll.

Vieux Nice is charming, with delightful markets, bars and restaurants. We were particularly taken with the flower market and the architecture of the surrounding churches and other buildings.

This is where I like to spend time. The area is not huge, so you can wander and see almost all of it in a short amount of time. The streets are narrow, usually lacking traffic, so it is peaceful. Wonderful architecture, echoing the Italian era. And you can do some shopping or sit in a cafe.

Such a lot to see, with lovely restaurants. Flights from Heathrow & cheap local bus ride to most parts of Nice & to travel from airport to hotel which made our visit easy.
