- AburelBucharest, Romania3,187 contributionsOverratedProbably a good place for modern art aficionados. We were attracted by the Chagall but disappointed to find only a very few… Pretty small on the inside but nicer on the outside though. The garden is nice and the building architecture interesting. There is a treat to enjoy the sun in a mild day or the restaurant. Keep the expectations down to the museum. Park in the overflow parking down as the main parking is on the smaller side.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 January 2024
- William SLiverpool, United Kingdom611 contributionsDisappointing experienceWe visited on a beautiful day and so the views and setting of the building could be enjoyed. We were disappointed by many of the exhibits which were dull and uninspiring. There was quite a bit of building going on outside which made some areas less attractive. At 17 euros we felt the cost was high for what was offered and would not return.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 April 2024
- Theodore MBoston, Massachusetts47 contributionsAmazing art museum and extremely beautiful! We had a wonderful experience at the Fondation Maeght! The gardens and Miro’s Labyrinth were outstanding. We especially liked the temporary exhibition regarding Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard’s friendship. There was a plethora of paintings by them and the galleries and many explanations. In the museum shop you can find a book titled “Sketches of a Journey” by the artist Pierre Bonnard himself. It might just be one of the greatest books I have ever read. The Fondation Maeght is a majestic place and another great spot is the rooftop patio. When you look at the hills of Provence, you fall into a state of bliss.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 August 2024

Having visited numerous museums in France and abroad, this is the first time that I cannot approach certain works due to “prohibition of walking on the grass” and absolutely no path of stone slabs to access them.
A work by JP Riopelle is thus particularly far from the sight of visitors... Moreover, if you try to go there on tiptoe, you will be sharply questioned by a guard... it's a shame knowing that he There are lawns strong enough to withstand trampling. Furthermore, wanting to access the terraces and seeing that they were closed, I asked the reason and heard that it was enough to open the locks... which of course I would not allow myself to do personally in a museum.
A place dedicated to art that I will have very bad memories of.

During my first visit in 1996, I was "dazzled" by this museum as much by the richness and quantity of the works exhibited as by the outdoor space.
Currently too many rooms are still closed!!
If you like Riopelle, the exhibition is rich in works, otherwise it's disappointing.
The outdoor restaurant has set up its tables in front of the Chagall lovers work, a shame!!!

A very interesting place where two patrons gathered around themselves the artists of the time in a place privileges of work and friendship. The collection of contemporary works is interesting and also the temporary exhibition of Matisse and Bonnard a decidedly beautiful friendship. Worth a visit not only for the collection of works but also for the location and the amazing chapel dedicated to St. Bernard

The Fondation Maeght is simply wonderful.
Starting from the size of the museum, the gardens with the masterpieces of Mirò, Giacometti and others and the temporary exhibition of Riopelle…. Everything here is special.
At the end of the visit to the collection, taking a walk in Saint Paul de Vence is a must.
I always come back here with great pleasure and every time I leave the visit I tell myself that the Maeght foundation is a true pearl of beauty.
Even my eight-year-old daughter was able to admire the paintings. The size of the visit is also perfect for children.

It’s a real hike to get here from St Paul de Vence. Beautiful grounds but as for the ‘art’. 💥
Nothing that has any semblance to anything you might recognise. Wish they had some explanations on the plaques by the various words.
OK. I’m not renowned as an art lover! I just want to understand what I’m looking at and what the artist was thinking!

The building, the indoor, outdoor spaces and the garden are already a work of art to be enjoyed at 360 degrees. The permanent collection with remarkable pieces. Currently there is also an exhibition Matisse Bonnard with an interesting parallel setting between the two painters

Absolutely magical place! A true haven of peace in a green setting where art is fully expressed with very beautiful works to discover by renowned artists,
To discover without hesitation!
It’s a shame that the receptionist at the ticket sales desk isn’t friendly.

It is always a pleasure to come and see this museum, which presents his works both inside and outside. A haven of peace, where we would have gladly settled with a good book and a cup of tea. Charming staff, huge new room with views of nature. Top floor terrace that offers you a breathtaking show. Then we visited the small village of Saint Paul de vence, very elegant, which is very close to the foundation. Nice visit.

Beautiful museum with plenty of natural light and modern architecture. To visit to see several works of Miro, paintings and sculptures. The gardens are beautiful with several sculptures and a corner reserved for Miro sculptures. Matisse, Chagall and Riopelle (sculptures), Miro are the main painters on display.
To see!

Bonjour,

Grazie
Written 18 May 2018
No nella Fondazione non c’è nemmeno un bar solo in zona a St Paul de Vance a 3 minuti molte proposte.

We are an older couple driving from Aix en Provence to the foundation. We will be in Provence May 26/ May 31 What is driving time to plan, parking as we have mobility issues and need to be close to entrance. Any suggestions for planning, route, snd way to make most of the day trip. Best days to visit?!Suggestion for lunch dinner etc. great.
So in advance thank you for your ideas.
Written 11 April 2018
To me, a visit to the Fondation if you have mobility issues is not a good idea. The distances from parking to gate and gate to building are long and to move around in the building would also be demanding.
Written 12 April 2018
Once you arrive in St. Paul de Vence, how do you get to Foundation Maeght?
Carol

Carol,
I have been to the Fondation Maeght 2 times. The first time I walked from la Colombe d'Or restaurant to the Museum. It is an uphill climb of about 1 km.
The 2nd time, I did it by car, and I just followed the signs.
