This square in the center of town is quite lovely. On the days when there is a market, you have another reason to linger and enjoy the things for sale. Maybe stop and buy something for someone at home? And there are cafes where you can rest.

A must visit if you find yourself lucky enough to be in St. Tropez on a Saturday or Tuesday. You can find anything and everything in this charming market from Antiques to clothing to fresh produce, meats and cheeses. A delightful market in the shade of trees, allow yourself at least one hour.

In the center of St. Tropez, amongst 100 years old Plane trees, is the lovely little square known as the Place des Lices. Usually, you can sit on a bench and watch the locals playing a casual game of boules, but on the mornings of Tuesdays and Saturdays, the square is turned into a market that would satisfy any shopaholic! From 8am to 1pm, you will find dozens of stalls selling everything from cheese to cashmere, antiques to artichokes! It is the perfect place to buy all those little gifts (like lavender honey) for your friends and family back home. But even if you are not in the mood to purchase the latest in beach fashion, it is still fun to go up and down the isles browsing at all the kitsch, and taking in the gorgeous scents of pizza, paella, rotisserie chicken, lavender, roses, spices and herbs.
Locals know to arrive as soon after 8 am as possible. By 10 am the place has become so crowded with tourists that it is very hard to move, let alone see what's being displayed! Also, if you are driving into St. Tropez, the chances of finding a parking space are very slim, unless you arrive early in the morning.
So take my advice: arrive early, take lots of cash (but beware of the pickpockets!) and shop till you drop!

We took the early boat at 8.45am from Port Grimaud - which in itself is a very pleasant experience. We got to Place des Lices for coffee and meandered through the market. It started getting really busy at 9.30 but we were still able to navigate through the many stalls selling food, clothes, wonderful antiques, and so on. We didn't see everything in one day, so came back another day with the car so that we could explore the coastline afterwards. If you are driving, park in the Place des Lices Parking lot; it's worth queuing as you are a minute's walk from the market.

The Côte d'Azur is not known for low prices at all and in St. Tropez is everything is even more expensive. However the market (tuesday and saturday morning on the Place de Lices) atracts loads of visitors and it is quite understandable why. There is a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, foods, clothes, tableware, antiques etc. etc. If you hate crowds stay away, if you want to find bargains you might be disapointed. Beside locals there are many tourist. The cafes surrounding the place are very busy and also not very cheap.

However if in St. Tropez or near it I recommend visiting the market anyway

This is the best Provincial market on the cote d' azur. It has absolutely everything imaginable that you can buy in a market from amazing fresh fuit and vegetables, to French delicacies and cheese, olives, meats etc . Then clothing, household items, art, electrical items, straw baskets, silk scarves, bathing suits, everything!!
It is situated in Place des Lices and is quite large. Keep you money and wallet close to you as there are sometimes undesirables that will pick pocket. But the market has plenty of police just in case.
The prices are not really negotiable but you can always try.
After the busy market you can have à Cafè or cold drink across the street and watch the world go by.
The market is on Tuesday and Saturday mornings 7-13h.
Enjoy and wear flat shoes or sneakers...the ground is uneven and you don't want to fall.
I definitely recommend this attraction

Visited this market when we went on a boat trip to St.Tropez in September 2014.
Have not been to St.Tropez before so new experience.
We followed the croud off the boat as we did not know where to go and this is where we ended up.
It was full of everything you could imagine from food to clothes to antiques.
It was so hot that we just wandered from one stall to another as there was nothing we really wanted but I did buy 2 lovely silk skarfs and also some brilliant zip up bags and pencil cases for the grandchildren.
Well worth a visit when in St.Tropez

We cycled into St. Tropez and stopped at the road sign of the town and the lady we asked to take a photo of us kindly informed us she was off to the market and suggested that we should go. We were so glad that we bumped into her as the market was wonderful. Many, many stalls selling their wares as suggested in previous posts. We didn't arrive until late in the morning and it was very, very busy so just excercise some patience and enjoy its ambience and wonderful smells. A little before 1.00pm stalls were beginning to pack up bringing the market to a close.

Nice market with a good range of food, clothes and garbage, but always a great atmosphere. Be warned though, this is Saint Tropez so if you want a break be ready to pay 6€ for a cappucino!

We visited Saint-Tropez on a Saturday whilst our cruise ship was moored just off the coast. After wandering up the narrow main street, we came across the Place des Lices Market. It was about 10am when we arrived there and the market area and the road bordering the market were already crammed with people. The local gendarmes were in attendance, attempting to control the traffic and the hordes of people attempting to cross the road, to and from the market.
It was a hot and dry day and the large crowds of people created irritating clouds of dust as they wandered amongst the market stalls. In places the aisles between the market stalls were particularly congested. Movement along the aisles was made even more difficult by the fact that about every third person appeared to have a dog on a leash, accompanying them.
The merchandise available for purchase was typical of what you would expect to find in a local street market. It ranged from women’s clothing, hats, jewellery, handicrafts, gifts and souvenirs through to fruit and vegetables, bakery products and sweets.
If like my wife, you are a “shopaholic” then the Place des Lices Market would be a great place for you to visit, if you happen to be in Saint-Tropez on either a Tuesday or a Saturday. If you are like me and you are not necessarily a keen shopper, then you could avoid the market, the crowds, the dust and the dogs and find something more entertaining to do in Saint-Tropez.
