There is something very sad about this deserted village, however beautiful it is. It is a reminder of the harsh conditions that the inhabitants had to endure but hats off to the person who recognised its significance all those years ago and set about restoring...More

There's too much else to see in the Luberon. If you have a passion for Medieval Stone Huts, go to Alberobella in Puglia for the Trullis.

These buildings surely are a treasure to be seen. Although simple in their construction the larger dwellings have been constructed with amazing craftsmanship. The arches must be seen to be believed and the size of the larger bories are impressive. The surrounding rock walls and...More

The village has a variety of types of bories for various functions. Interesting to see the construction techniques and how people might have lived in these dwellings. Would not make a special long distance trip but it is convenient to Gordes and nearby towns.

Fascinating how they built these structures out of necessity and at the same time they are brilliant. Worth the quick trip !

The village stone work is primitive and beautiful and is as reminder of the harsh life peasants had. Similar structures can be seen around the world, but not as a village.

On the outskirts of Gordes, this historical grouping of "Bories" give a window into the harsh life of Provencal farmers. These "dry-stone" buildings created from the stones dug out on site as fields and olive groves were planted, are of various shapes and sizes but...More

Just out of Gordes this old French stone village is worthy of visiting. The workmanship in creating this village is something amazing. Definitely make time to view the visual presentation and go upstairs to the display.

The village of Bories is a story of freedom. In exchange for cultivating harsh lands the farmers got land to own themselves. They lived in houses which appear as Neolithic. Absolutely worth the trip
