The Dystopian Nomad and friends stopped over by this beauty of a basilica. But, the trip upwards to the basilica, and on food is not for the faint of heart. We basically duped ourselves into thinking that we can easily do it, and by the time we realised the task, it was too late and we had to keep going. So, the basilica offers an impressive 360° view of the entire city of Marseille. Amazing and stunning views up to the peripheries of Marseille. Simply beautiful. The Basilica itself is also a work of wonder. We went up into the crypt, which has a sort of mini chapel and alter inside it. Then we went up and visited the main chapel, which is gorgeous. The terrasse which surrounds the church offers breath taking views. Do visit this church, it is a very lovely place.

Ii suppose this is the Marseille equivalent of the Eiffel Tower in the sense that wherever you go in the city you seem to still be able to see it. I walked up the hill to reach it, it’s not that demanding. The 360 degree views of the city are amazing.

There is a little train that takes you from near the port all the way to the top, or you can drive. For whatever reason the main church was not open the day we were there but we could get into the crypt. The main attraction is the fantastic view, 360 degrees around, of the city and the sea.

This is a beautiful church with a beautiful ceiling. There is no admission fee. This building is majestically located on the top of a hill. We took an Uber and got dropped off at the entrance. You can also take a sightseeing bus from Minato City. The view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea from here is beautiful. Highly recommend this attraction.

Beautiful church and fabulous view. We took the number 60 bus from the Vieux Port and it worked really well. It’s a bit of a hike on foot otherwise. We didn’t stay too long but it was enough to enjoy the view for miles in all directions and see how huge a city Marseille is. The interior of the church is fascinating either hanging wooden boats of all types within the church itself. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m so glad I finally got up there after seeing the church from afar when I visited Marseille before.

A real landmark that we could see from most places, especially our apartment in a nearby tower block. Saw people walking up and down but it’s very easy to drive up to and free to park. Also free to go in. Inside not as impressive as we’d hoped but absolutely wonderful views all over town.

Beautiful baroque style cathedral with a nautical twist! My advice take the Petit Train up for 10 Euros.. it’s worth it. Beautiful city views from up top and the inside of Notre Dame is quite beautiful!

Absolutely stunning, moving, the people's church, La Bonne Mere. Be sure to spend lots of time inside looking at the memorials on the walls which are actually paintings, commemorating those that lost their lives, shipwrecks, natural disasters, etc - with La Bonne Mere in the paintings, each and every one of them, watching over the victims. And don't miss the model ships, planes, hanging from the ceiling. Spectacular church. Take local bus #60 to get there and back down, runs very often, super reliable.

We took the Petit Train tour from the Old Port up to the church and walked around a bit. We did not tour the church as that was an added fee and time was short for us, but would have enjoyed seeing more of the interior. Bathrooms here cost a euro and there is a machine you can use a card to pay with.
