Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In August a place completely devoid of charm. Overcrowded and quite dirty despite the active presence of an association that raises awareness of respect for nature.
The only reason to come is at sunset and in the evening to eat in the restaurants present which however are very expensive

We had dinner here at a very fine restaurant with views of this little harbor. Local cuisine, local scenes. And then we walked around in the evening glow. This is a way spectacular area, a little full of tourists, but that's OK.

Knowing this place out of tourist season, a big disappointment during my last visit with 2 friends to celebrate a birthday.
Deplorable service, no smile, when opening the bottle of wine, no offer to taste, we had to ask for the bread,
Nothing was fresh, everything refried, nothing crispy.
Only meat dishes, for Marseille, only one suggestion of fish as a dish.
Neighboring tables were served identically.
No picking up crumbs from the floor before settling down.
A pure shame, a real disaster.
I'm not ready to go back, I'll enjoy the site with a homemade sandwich...or I'll go elsewhere...

I could follow the trend of previous reviewers and call this a peaceful haven, or Marseille's hidden secret, but the truth of the matter is that everyone else seems to have found it, so it isn't a secret and it isn't particularly peaceful. Perhaps we were unlucky in that we visited on a lovely Sunday morning when everyone else seemed to be out and about, so if you can delay your visit until a weekday, when other people should be at work, you might find the peace and quiet that you seek.
Having said that, I will concede that it is a nice little place and you could almost think that you were not in the middle of a city. There are some nice little cottages and the walkway round the harbour leads to an open air swimming pool and an area of rocks,
There are two restaurants here: one a reasonably priced pizza and pasta place with a nice rooftop terrace, and the other is the famed Fonfon - praised by many for the quality of its bouillabaisse. We didn't try this famous dish and I can only hope that at over 50 Euros a bowlful, it is worth the money. In my view this is an outrageous price for what is, in effect, a seafood stew and I suggest that some of these restaurateurs remind themselves that this was initially a simple seaman' dish using off cuts and small bits of fish that they couldn't sell at market.
Mind you - if I thought that the dish was overpriced at Fonfon, I was even more gobsmacked to see a nearby hotel up on the main road charge 75 Euros a head for the same dish!
From a practical perspective I note people suggesting that you can get here easily on the 83 bus from the Vieux Port, and while that is indeed the case it is worth pointing out that you can stroll here in about 30 minutes, and if you take it slowly, it is a really lovely walk. So rather than simply jump on a bus, why not stroll round the south end of the Vieux Port and pop into the Jardin du Pharo to sit on a bench and watch the comings and goings of the boats in the harbour.
Then take a 10 minute stroll further along to the Plage des Catalans to watch a bit of beach volleyball or simply sit and soak up a bit of sun. Five minutes further along brings you to the impressive and rather beautiful war memorial with fabulous views across to Les Isles du Frioul, and then it is just a case of descending the steps to the village of Vallon des Auffes.
A lovely way to spend a morning. Now - can I afford a bowl of fish stew before the trip back?

We saw this tiny old fishing port, with authentic working fishing boats from the open top bus tour we did and decided to go back to it on foot from the Vieux Port on a later day. We got some local knowledge about a more scenic route to take to find it and went uphill and then down through an old part of town via many old steps, with views of tiny flower-filled gardens which we would have missed if we'd followed the usual tourist route. There are only a few places to eat or drink but the Fonfon restaurant, featured in the film "The French Connection" is still there and fully functioning. A pleasant place to walk to away from the main drag and although quiet in April it is probably packed with tourists in the high season.

This is quite an unexpected side of Marseilles: a secluded cove with fishing boats surrounded by houses. It is located right at the beginning of the Corniche and is definitely worth a short visit, Very picturesque.

Like the rest of the city...this was an amazing experience. We thought we could not like a city more than Amsterdam, which we visited before Marseilles....but all the sights of Marseilles were magnificent.

a french old freind , who is a Marseille's resident , have advised me to take a long lovely walk and make amazing promenade along Kennedy's Cornish , and he advised me to stop at Vallon des Auffes ,
I took a bus from station of "Vieux Port" and ask the driver to drop me at Vallon des Auffes , I was surprised and really dazzled by this amazing spot
I found myself in a fantastic small bay with lovely fish boats , fishers traditional huts , and lovely restaurants facing the marvelous blue of the sea
I have a lovely promenade at this wonderful site , and I enjoyed this scenic little picturesque port , I ate the famous dish of Marseille "La Bouillabaisse" at the restaurant located there and I enjoyed the lovely sunset (i was lucky as it was a sunny warm day)
I have spent a very good time , taking very nice photos of one of the hidden treasure attraction of Marseille ,
I notice that a lot of tourists ignore this magical spot , which i recommend everyone to visit it

We walked from the old port, takes about half an hour. Expected something fantastic. It is a tiny cove with 3 restaurants, a handful of fishing boats, and backdropped by lots of houses. Nothing to do except take a snapshot and walk back. Only go if you are going to eat in one of the expensive eateries.

I would definitely recommend going here just before sunset. This will give you one of the most beautiful views of the bridge as can be seen in the pictures. Sit down on a terrace and enjoy a glass/bottle of wine coupled with the view.

Hotel Peron is ca.5-6 minutes walking, with beautiful views to the see. Haven't stayed there but have seen as we were walking back from the Vallon des Auffes. It looked nice from outside! There is a very good bus connection which is going between the old port and prado beach, stops also at the hotel and at the vallon.
