We recently visited here after reading the recommendations on Trip Advisor but were a little disappointed. Whilst the views were wonderful there was not an awful lot to do at the top. I would recommend the trail walk up to Col de la Forclaz instead. This is a beautiful walk which culminates in a pretty little town with the most stunning views.

Our family with 2 kids headed up to Semnoz to find a hike. We took a bit of a round about route and came up the back side on a windy, narrow but beautiful road. Stopped at the top and preceded to 'hike'. A bit more of a walk really, but you need good shoes as the rocks on the road are ankle twisting. You can also head off through the pasture. It was soooo cool with the cows, goats and one ornery llama around, all their bells ringing. There are some little houses, you can buy cheese that is made right up top! The clouds moved in and we saw no views for the first hour, still fun and spooky. We hiked about 40 minutes stopped for a huge, delicious omelette lunch at a little chalet. The clouds blew off and wow, gorgeous views! Hiked back the long way- spectacular. When heading down to Annecy, we stopped at the ski hill as we discovered it had a summer luge run. FUN... For 27 euros all4 of us had 2 luge runs each, plus 2 extra runs down the ski hill on a 'devel kart', go-cart car. Sounds touristy but it was a blast and we were only one of two groups there, no lines.

Each year we visit family in Sevrier (town on lac annecy) we head up to the Semnoz. We have young children (5 and 8) and it is a wonderful place to hike around - easy walks and lovely views.

We stop at the summer luge as well and the kids have a blast.

Very close and easy if you only have a short time to spare.

Mt. Semnoz was gorgeous. My husband and I took a taxi to the top from Annecy (about 30-40 euros), because we went in the off season. The buses that take people to the top run only in the summer months. Because we went in the off season however there was very few people at the top. We loved that because we don't like big crowds. There were only two restaurants at the top. My husband and I just brought snacks and we were fine. The views were breathtaking. We loved hiking around and lounging in the sun at the top. We spent 4+ hours at Mt. Semnoz, but could have spent even more time there.
If you are looking for a place with more to do around the area but with amazing views of the Alps I recommend going to Chamonix.
Also, If you decide to start walking down to the bottom toward Annecy, keep in mind taxis won't pick you up in the middle. You have to be at the top or at some landmark.
I would very much recommend coming here if you are visiting close by.

Fun time in the mountains. Takes around 20 minutes to drive up to the summit from Annecy. 19 Euros for 10 rides. Can take 2 people per ride. Chilly at the top of the mountains even if it's warm down in Annecy, so take a jacket with you. There a Bambi farm half way, so if you have kids on board that would be a worthy visit (there is a free of charge WC there as well).

Simply daid: You do not want to miss that point. Unless you are used to such landscapes. Worth travelling especially to visit the point. Instruct your GPS to look for a cafe/restaurant called "The Rochers Blancs".
Once you are there, park across the road , then either look around from the cafe, (actually, coming from Annecy, you can stop on the side even befrore raching the the cafe), then you can climb the hill nearby the cafe, where the cable car station is located and a memorial stone is there and enjoy a 360 degrees panorama. Do this on clear days.

The road from Annecy to Semnoz is a 1300m high, 17km bike climb on a quiet road with a decent paved surface, average 7% grade, but for most of it never seems to drop below 7 and there are almost no flat sections to recover. You are in the trees for most of the climb and just come out near the top, the shade is very nice, but not much scenery until you get to the top. You will want to warm up along the lake before heading up, as leaving town the road goes right into the switchbacks at 7-8%. There is lots of nice biking through Gruffy, Leschaux and Saint Joriaz so you can make some nice loops of 60-70 km. At the top of Semnoz you can descend through Leschaux to pick up the other routes, but the summer of 2017 there is construction and the descent is closed during the day.

Nice drive from Annecy up to Le Semnoz. Went in summer. On a clear day there is a great view including the Mont Blanc region. You drive up (or cycle up as they do in the Tour de France and many very fit cyclists do) and can park just below the summit. There is a 5 minute walk to the viewing point at the top.

Very near the summit is a summer toboggan run - this was very quiet with almost no queues at all even in the height of summer. We are loved it and the kids said it was the highlight of the holiday. It opened 10-12 in the morning and then in the afternoon. It worked out about 2 Euros a run and it is a great ride!

A very short drive from Annecy, and you are up high facing the Mont Blanc, gorgeous views, lots of animals and easy walks with kids.

We took the bus from the bus station to the top. There are several stops but just stay on until the end. It’s a flat plateau with 360* views and you can see the Alps on one side and then the valley on the other.

It’s worth going for a meander around to take in the pastures and the cows with their bells ding donging away. You can also buy local alpine cheese from the farm shops along the way.

We decided to hike back down to Annecy which was beautiful and through forested woodlands. However the paths are very badly signposted so it’s worth getting a map of the area beforehand. We ended up on an exhausted trek along the road halfway through our journey which wasn’t that fun! It took us a good 5 hours to get back into town, if not more.
