    Superb old town
Very pittoresque medieval town with canals and a very large lakeside park. Note that P places fill up quickly and the center can get uncomfortably crowded on weekends. Flixbus or train travel is strongly recommended

    Pretty
The old city of Annecy is very pretty and scenic. Some of the roads (all pedestrian only) are very narrow. The built and houses are well maintained. Obviously there are many touristy restaurants there but that’s life. You can spend a day discovering the old city.

A great place to visit, day or night.
For some strange reason I had it in mind that Annecy was some sort of modern, resort town. How wrong I was, and the old town is full of history, beautiful old buildings, and lots of places to shop, eat and drink. Obviously this is the busiest place in town as far as tourists are concerned, but I was impressed by how easy it is to find relative peace and quiet by strolling up some of the little alleyways or simply going along the riverside areas of the little River Thui. The old town also comes alive at night and the area round about Rue Sainte Claire is as vibrant as anywhere I’ve been.

Best to just walk around aimlessly and enjoy the architecture
You can spend the whole day just walking about the old streets, getting lost and finding yourself in the same street many times. That sometimes can be the fun. It is very crowded and everyone stays in the this area. Just walk 25 metres away from the old town and the streets are quiet.

    Great place to visit
So glad we stopped in this beautiful old town. It was lovely street markets, stores, eateries and the beautiful lake. We only had a few hours to walk around but would definitely go back and stay for a few days. We totally recommend.❤️

    About the historic center
La Vieille Ville, which means something like “the historic center” is one of the best places to take a pretty picture and sightsee quitefully between creators shops, crêperies, street artists and, of course, the historical monuments. There are also a few home-made ice-cream shops that are really solicited and the exceptional taste of these ice creams and sorbets makes sense of the overcrowdedness of the street concerned; or naturally, bakeries and boulangeries if you want a sweet treat (such as a croissant) after a sunny afternoon spent at the lake. Moreover, the riverfronts of the Tiou are, and especially in summer, augmented with lots of colorful flowers of many sorts, which make this a fine picture spot with friends.

Annecy is in a word Gorgeous! It is a beautiful old town and we loved everything about it but the CROWDS! You simply could barely move through the streets. It was packed to the rafters with people from 10.30 am and people continued to pack in throughout the day and into the evening. If you sat outside at lunch or dinner you were literally crammed into the outdoor seating. There were many smokers who lit up and smoked continuously, and vaping is clearly the in thing to do because there were massive clouds of smoke erupting everywhere. You couldn’t even avoid the smokers or vapers when trying to pass down the streets. I cannot stress just how crowded it was as we all shuffled together up and down the narrow village streets. Perfect Covid spreader!
I would recommend that you go outside of July/August to be able to see and enjoy this beautiful village and surrounds . The buses start to arrive about 11.00 and there seems to be no limit on them. The overcrowding was absolutely horrible. It was also really noisy too as everyone had to yell to be heard.
Please don’t get me wrong! I love being a tourist and sharing experiences with other tourists.
We travelled all round France for 7 weeks and this was the only time we experienced this.

We self guided our way around the old town using the ‘Town walks’ (4 discovery routes map) available from the Tourist Office. Chose the ‘hotel de ville’ car park as the best option to be close to the action - very easy to use. Followed ‘bits’ from all the routes marked and thoroughly enjoyed discovering the history of the old quarter. Take your time, have a coffee stop or two and enjoy the experience!

Drove to Annecy through the countryside with some friends and stopping by the old town is beautiful. It perfectly fits the description of a fairytale village.

Love this old town - beautiful architecture - lots of eateries and shops and gorgeous river flowing through. There’s ample parking nearby - do not miss this if you are nearby.
