About
Soierie Vivante invites you to discover Lyon's very last remaining weaving workshops from the 19th century. The association organises guided visits with no booking needed. The "bistanclaque pan" (as it's known in the trade) of the looms makes this noisy visit one you won't be able to forget!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While there are only two opportunities per day to visit here and it is a bit out of the way it’s worth it if you are into textiles and Lyon history. It is an old silk weavers atelier and résidence where silk piping and ribbon was made. The old looms from the late 19th century are operative and you can see the workings of a Jacard machine, the predecessor of our modern computers.
The Trip advisor listing is a bit confusing as the hours for tours here are 2 and 4 with another near by atelier for wider weavings at 3 and 5
If nothing else the weaving of a portrait of Jacard is remarkable and well worth the visit.
Loved it.

We wanted to learn a little about the canut and silk weaving in Lyon. This small museum demonstrates what it was like for the weavers. The young lady that gave the talk and demo on two of the looms really knew her stuff and obviously was passionate about sharing her love for the artisans that worked here. We were lucky to have the talk in English.
The museum consists of the work area with 3 looms and a rebuilt living area of kitchen and bedroom.

Very interesting visit to the two workshops, weaving and trimmings.
The two workshops are located 500m from each other, at Croix Rousse.
Old looms in working order, managed by an active association.
Emmanuel's presentation of the trimmings workshop was really fascinating and lively, with lots of technical explanations.
That of the weaving workshop was more monotonous.
