Eglise Saint Nizier is a church with a lot of history inside its walls. The building itself probably needs a bit of renovation, but it is quite an attractive sight. It's a gothic style building but the history of the site goes back to Roman times when it is believed a temple existed. In later times a small church was erected but it suffered damage. Over the centuries a church was built and rebuilt a number of times as it was damaged or destroyed by various groups. So it would be worth visiting this church just for its history if nothing else. It's worth it.

The Stations-of-the-Cross is this beautiful, traditional, stone cathedral were eye opening! Updated in 2019, they placed Jesus and the cross into a 21st century setting and made us stop and think. We were casually exploring Lyon when we wandered in here and I could here the low moan behind me "not another church ..." To have the crucifixion thrust into reality and made relevant, was very unexpected.

With its twin spires, this Church is a beacon in the heart of the Presqu'ile. I was fortunate to attend Mass here on Ascension Day -- it was moving to witness the devotion of the large congregation . This must be a popular church in Lyon.

It was originally erected in memory of the early Christian martyrs of Lyon.

Built during the 14th and 15th centuries the church is mainly built in the Gothic style with a Renaissance portal. Stand back and admire the facade from across the street.

Worth seeing are:

The crypt
Several side chapels - the Sacred Heart Chapel is particularly beautiful and a good place to pray
Beautiful mosaics representing the martyrs and stained glass
The tomb of Jaricot and a commemorative plaque on the marriage of Frederic Ozanam
A very old clock
An elaborate pulpit and some beautiful religious sculptures

We did not use a tour guide. It is a beautiful church with a lot of history inside, so do not pass by without going inside. Take about 45 minutes at least

it was a bit tricky to get to it during all the construction but the construction workers were very good about directing people to the right way around so we could get in safely. Lovely church with a surprisingly austere altar.

It's very old and it used to be the main church of Lyon. Built on a church from the 6th century, which was built on a Roman temple, the church has the remains of Saint Nizier, accredited with miraculous healings after his death.

The inside is quite amazing but lacking a lot of the artwork that disappeared after the French revolution.

One of the many gorgeous churches in France. Stop in, say a prayer and light a candle for a loved one.

Actually a better and more interesting church than the two major cathedrals in the city. Really ornate inside.
Right in the town centre. Very ancient gothic architecture.

This was a nice Gothic church worth visiting. It is not very big and hence will not take more than 30 mins to visit.
