Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Theatre des Celestins is a 19th century theatre which has maintained its attraction. It is located in a lovely area of the city. It is worth a visit if you are close by.

Beautiful building with history is located at Place des Celestins. It was inaugurated in 1877. The theatre and the square on which it stands are named after a convent and church of the Celestine order, which occupied the site between 1407 and 1789. Nice atmosphere and ambiance around. Little square with many benches where you can seat (after long walking promenade) and relax to watch local. I wished to visit inside but I did not have a chance, put on my bucket list......

We only went to the front of the theater to see the art piece that has been created for here. Located in the plaza in front of the theater you can use a viewscope sort of thing to see a large convex mirror in the parking garage below. The mirror rotates and shows the interior arches of the parking ramp. Later we went into the parking garage via elevator to see the arches along the ramp and the mirror that are shown through the viewscope. All rather fascinating and creative. Takes about 10 minutes.

My partner and I enjoyed a performance of Nuit Funèbre performed here as part of the Festival de l'Opéra de Lyon. What a beautiful theatre, with an intimate atmosphere, good accoustics and friendly, helpful staff.

We visited this during the day, then again in the evening for the light festival.
Some really neat restaurants around the square, and again many cool local vendors.

Célestins, Théâtre de Lyon stands on the site of a Celestine monastery, hence the name. Another gorgeous theater building so typical for the finest European cities...
Built in 1877, the Italian-style theater of Lyon has been recently renovated and the facade looks absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day of our visit and we were not able to appreciate the beauty of the interior, but the exterior is truly magnificent. I wish I knew French to be able to attend a performance...
Stop by, if you are walking in the elegant and very stylish Presqu'île area of Lyon.

This is a beautiful theatre in what is called the Italian style (lots of gold, red, curtains, niches, etc., etc.) with a view from high above (cheapest places) on the scène down below; in one word: classical.
But the spectacles the Celestins Theatre programs are really worthwhile. Of course a lot in French, but sometimes in the original language (italian with a subtitle-line showing below the scène. New and classical pieces from daring innovative directors. Its always a pleasure to go there. In one word: contemporary yet stylefull
There is a second scène for a smaller public. You can even watch puppet theatre for adults there (the El Cid in giant puppets made from ice (so each night a new set) which then slowly melt in the heat of the floodlights. Incredible).
If you come around 7 or 8 pm, you can sometimes have last-minute tickets for next to nothing. Special tariffs also for students.
Even if you do not speak French, just try it out once.
Lots of dineries/wineries around the square in front of the place.

The first theater building was built in 1792, but in 1871 it was destroyed by fire. The new building was built in 1877. In 2002 - 2005, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out.
