Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In a gorgeous Baroque mansion, accessed via a grand light and airy area that has numerous sculptures, it is well worth spending time here.

Great displays convey the long history of the city, from its foundation many centuries ago up to the mid 20th century. Key documents and charters illustrate significant events.

A wonderful model of the Gothic Cathedral details the immense effort involved in its construction. Descending to the vaulted cellar was another highlight. Archaeological exhibits show medieval walls in addition to views of the city at different periods.

There is much emphasis on the religious life of the city. Stained glass and holy images are numerous.

It was marvellous to get a window onto the lives of the privileged in the past by means of the mansion itself. Rooms of the original owners have furnishings and décor exemplifying the comfortable life of the well-to-do.

Superb frescos and ornate timepieces enhance the journey.

A small museum, housed in a historic house, built before 1800. In fact, the house itself, very nicely restored, is the most impressive part of the museum. Also, there is a covered inner courtyard, very beautiful. Otherwise, the museum is not impressive, it does not have many exhibits and not very spectacular. The exhibits have no description in English. You need less than an hour to visit it.

We went because it was included in the ticket we bought for the Augustiner Museum. The somewhat eclectic collection ranges from instruments of torture to a model of the Schauinslandbahn cable car (worth a day out if you are in the area). We tend to spend ages in museums, reading all the information available .... and we were finished here in 30 minutes. The undoubted star of the show is the house itself - especially the staircase and the dome.

Worth the half hour. Worth going on the combined ticket as it did not cost us anything.

The ticket also covered the Natural History Museum (nice display of the rock cycle) and the Museum of Modern Art (we ran out of time on our day with the ticket because we spent so long in the excellent Augustiner Museum).

This small museum is worth visiting for the cellars and the excavations and the models of the city showing its development. This musuem is covered by the city day ticket.

It's hard to believe how a smart city like Freiburg dedicates so little effort to this Museum. On the oher hand, we were there on a hot day and all the windows were close, so it was like being in an oven.

This museum could be skipped if you were in a crunch for time. They have some very interesting items in here including a very nice map downstairs of the city, actually a model, but it helps to see if the old Freiburg while you're wondering around the new Freiburg. There's also a photograph of the city after it was bombed out during the war. That's very interesting.

This would have been the best place to start the first visit into Freiburg. Interesting and long history well presented. The two city models describe Freiburg with its medieval history from around 1600 and with its fortification roughly 100 years later. Highly recommended.

I very much wanted to visit this museum, but unfortunately it was difficult to access - steps and heavy door - and most of the museum on first and second floors with stair access only. I appreciate providing access in older buildings is difficult, but it is not impossible and i got the impression here that it is an old building and not their problem if people like me can't access it.

Opposite the Munster this building is competition for an eye catcher. The ornate stonework and small detailed colored tiles are a sight worth seeing. To truly appreciate it you need a sunny day but most days here are sunny.

This museum is small and not really aimed at non-German-speaking tourists as all labels are in German only. Many of these labels look old and in need of an update. Some interesting dioramas show the growth of Freiburg as well as the additions to the cathedral.
