This town square, built next to and named after Freiburg's famous cathedral, is still a major center of the city's social activity.

This large, open-air market is there every day except Sunday and open until about mid-day. You can buy delicious food, fruit, wines, and crafts. This was our breakfast and lunch spot almost every day!

Good place to visit if you like shopping for fruit, flowers and some souvenirs. Of course the plaza is filled with lots of products but for locals. I don't think the average traveler would like to buy some tomatoes to bring home. The view is...More

The market in the Munsterplatz is a must-see. The buildings surrounding the square are adorable and exactly what you would expect from a Black Forest stop, and the fresh fruits and juices at the market are the best!

Enjoyed the market on the days that exist (all but Sunday, best on Wednesday & Saturday). Good place to pick up a sausage or pastry for your breakfast - but bring your own coffee.

We visited at night and it was a low key relaxed vibe. A place I would come back to during the day when they have a great market. I’d also come back and stay in a hotel by the cathedral and have a drink and...More

Typical European market square. Beautiful buildings and a great market selling local produce. Try the cheesecake, sausages and schnapps.

Church is worth 30 minutes of your time, nothing else is. Fifty feet in any direction from the church is a strip mall look with graffiti. Use Staufen as your home base for the black forest.

The town square has wonderful crafts persons selling their wares. Lovely to have access to beautiful individual art - rather than mass produced souvenirs. Great ice cream shops also in the square. Just beautiful!

Extraordinary example of old arquitecture for a German city. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many places in Germany where you can see old city centers as they used to be. This is one.

We toured this area on a Tuesday and enjoyed the fabulous market in the square surrounding the cathedral. There were many different types of products including stall with hand made wooden toys for kids.

While this town has the charm of many old medieval towns in Germany, it was extremely crowded and noisy during the Weinfest (wine fair) in 2018. We couldn't even pull in front of our hotel to unload our luggage. Instead we were told to park...More

We stayed at Zum Roten Baren, an old guest house on Oberlinden. It was very comfortable there, and very central.
