We had some time before we checked into our hotel so we stopped at this museum. The staff working the museum were very helpful and nice. We bought our tickets and were informed that they were good for other museums in the city as well so we visited three museums in all. This museum is nicely layed out and we... More

This should be a must-visit for anyone involved in curating or building a museum. Its amazing. It wasn't something we thought would be all that interesting, but the way everything is displayed and the way the building creates vistas and enhances the way the collection is displayed is just stunning. Visit even if you aren't interested in the collection.

This is a gorgeous little museum which has recently been redone (about 4 or 5 years ago now. Well worth a visit. It allows a close up of the gargoyles from the Munster which are displayed in a manner which is very user friendly and original.

A bit of a hodgepodge, showing objects and art from the middle ages right up to the 20th century. Watch out for the exhibition "Freiburg during the Third Reich" opening in October.

If you are visiting the Muenster then you should also visit this museum. Some of the interesting things on display are original huge sandstone sculptures from the tower, stained glass art from this and other churches, as well as a lot of other interesting religious artifacts from the area. I would also say, that seldom have I experienced the interior... More

I admit I didn't actually go in the museum, more looked in, on the way to the excellent cafe where we enjoyed an extraordinarily light Black Forest gateau which we shared (massive) in the fabulous cloister garden. Cafe well recommended. Museum has a great reputation.

I am not a huge fan of ecclesiastical art, but the museum was a positive surprise. Apart from the permanent exhibition of various pieces of religious art and artifacts they also have changing exhibitions which can be very good indeed. But even the permanent exhibition surprised me. It is varied and displayed in such a way as to let visitors... More

You should plan to visit this place when it has special exhibition (we went there during a good one - with many pictures and historical paintings of one of the greatest influenced artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter - in the 19th century) The main hall had many statues and paintings which resembled different parts in the Bible. I really liked those... More
