Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not perhaps a well-known museum but one that is really well worth a visit. The remarkable story of the Prinzhorn collection and its founder Hans Prinzhorn is explained in a short film in the museum entrance, and while the extreme fragility of most of the works means that few are permanently on show, there are temporary exhibitions (particularly recommend the Paul Goesch one running at present) and a superb selection of wood carvings in the basement. The story of this key collection (which came to be known as the Bible of the Surrealists) is quite remarkable and the images of tragic isolation it presents are very moving; it's worth doing your homework before you visit, but if you have no time, there is plenty of informative material in the little bookshop. In my opinion, a must-see.

This is a unique gem of a museum! It is NOT for everyone! You must love art and all the range of artist. They have different traveling shows so check. But worth the visit - worth going out of your way to visit. Please leave children and non-art lovers at home/the hotel!

Art by people who have been institutionalized or otherwise on the margins. This is an important collection and the exhibitions are small but thought-provoking. A little bit difficult to find and not terribly well-marked, but well worth it for anyone who is interested in human creativity. We found street parking easily nearby. On the day we went admission was free because the lighting was being finicky.

This is a very small museum attached to Heidelberg University Hospital. The concept and the artworks themselves were very interesting, and the staff were friendly and polite. The information is entirely in German, but I was given a printed copy of the English translations. Unfortunately there was no translation of the 20-minute introductory film, which presumably gave a lot more context to the art works. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this isn't for everyone, and especially not for non-German speakers.

Is this museum still open? I am very interested in the Prinzhorn collection.
