It was very interesting to walk around the student jail. Viewing all the students names on the walls was amusing, but understanding German would have made it better. We managed to spend about 15 minutes here, as there are only about 4 rooms and a staircase, but is still an interesting visit. I would not go out of my way... More

If you do the English -speaking tour you get taken in here as part of the price. The place is festooned with art work created by the former inmates in celebration of their incarceration!

This is an interesting visit to a historical location in the oldest university in Germany. I've heard rumors from some of my friends in DE that apparently some students may have done intentional infractions so they would be sent here. Why...maybe food or quiet study location? I enjoyed looking at dates and the extensive graffiti.

This was an interesting stop and a neat part of the school history. The jail was run by the university for "wayward" students. The graphetti done by the students is interesting to look at.

I was a little bit disappointed entering this little museum. It is only 4 rooms where you can only see graffiti on walls of this kind of Jail for the rebel students in the Heidelberg University. We are talking about the 1800 if I am not wrong. There is a little bit of info written in different languages (which is... More

An interesting curiosity, full of inscriptions and paitings, which look quite modern, it is necesssary to use audioguide, since there is no guide there.

We need some of these here in the states. This was a university lockup for out of line students back in the late 1700s to 1914 when it was finally shut down. Bread and water for your first 4 days, thereafter you depended on friends for meals. The cells were spartan at best and most "inmates" left their calling card... More

This has to be the most unique museum that I have ever visited in Europe. It is the student jail for Heidelberg University and at some point became a badge of honor for the student body where you almost had to get in trouble to save face and spend a night there. The ticket is 3 euro and will also... More

Studentenkarzer, "Student Prison" at The University of Heidelberg. As long ago as the 16th Century, citizen complaints about carousing students. As a result, the Studentenkarzer was created to keep academic miscreants off the streets for three days to four weeks at a time. Although it was closed down in 1914, the graffiti on the walls was well preserved. Don't miss... More

Richly preserved, this kazer is a wonderful piece of preserved University history! It's not to be missed! Go upstairs and view the art, poetry and graffiti on the walls of this holding area for unruly college students. It's unique, colorful and well preserved! Fun to see what these creative students did to these walls to mask their boredom during confinement!... More
