Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For my money the greatest attraction in Karlsruhe is the wonderful opera house. Architecturally not everyone's fancy but acoustically marvellous! Yet the house does not even get a mention on Karlruhe's attractions - perhaps the good towns' people want to keep this particular treasure to themselves. Whilst on a stop over I had a brilliant evening at the Karlsruhe opera house and often look at the company's repetoire on the Operabase website when I am at home. Their programme and wide range of productions would be the envy of many a more famous company. Compliments to all involved. I wish I didn't live so far away because if I were any nearer I would be there every night while ever a performance was on. Fondest Regards Andy Laptew, Bradford, West Yorkshire, England.

Well, Badisches Staatstheater is not the best opera house in architecture, as so many post war buildings in Germany aren't. But what's on offer is world class actually, the orchestra is impeccable, the staging very creative and tasteful, and the staff friendly and 'badisch', a unique German slang one has to get used to...
Went to Wagners Walküre March 4th and had a blast! Staging was awesome, lots of scene changes and magnificent world class singers, not to forget the orchestra, too.
If you go here in a tuxedo and bow tie you'll be watched strangely, as crowd mostly consists of grey dressed federal state workers who tend to dress not to make a scene, quite boring actually. Not much eye candy. But the food and drinks are very good, caterer is excellent and I highly recommend to order in advance to get your drinks and food on a reserved table during breaks, saves you the lines!!! And you got more time for the loo ;-)
After 5 hours of Wagner met with one of the singers in their casino down in the basements of this theater and had a blast! What a nice crowd and party, they really love their jobs and it shows!!! Wish it were like that in every day life!

We went here for an opera performance and we liked the building, the interior very much. At the theater there ar interesting sculpturs, and the whole atmosphere is very inviting. And the opera performance was excellent - Falstaff.

What a wonderful event--the annual Handel festival-- to cause us to visit Karlsruhe and the Staatstheater this week. The opera house is not the most beautiful on the exterior but the interior was very well done indeed. Multiple levels allow easy access to food, tables, bar, and just walking about before performance. Even with the large crowds you didn't feel claustrophobic. The main theater had excellent comfortable seats and good sight lines. All the staff were very congenial and most spoke English. Needless to say the artistic presentations for the festival were first rate. It's perhaps the best opera deal we've found in price and quality--we will return many times I'm sure.

I have a theatre subscription for this place so have watched quite many plays here. Almost each of them was very special due to the great actors' skills and almost each had a stunning stage setting which was creatively used during the play. Very often I anticipate the play to come up as tedious but they always surprise me.
Highly recommended!

On my treveling across Europe, I have visited theatars and concert halls, old and new ones. This one is new architecture. Exterior is more or less like otheres of modern style. But what impress me is the interior, and the most interesting was the auditorium. Arrangement of the seats is very unique and functional. I recommend to everyone who can to visit a performance at this extraordinary modern theater.

Visiting from the United States, I saw 2 operas on consecutive nights: "La Vestale" in Karlsruhe and "Nabucco" in Stuttgart. The clear winner is Karlsruhe. Excellent orchestra, soloists, and chorus. Intelligent production within limited financial means. The opera house in Karlsruhe may not be the most pleasing architecturally, but it has convenient seating for the audience, plenty of space during intermission (truly different from most other opera houses), and a large stage with modern technical equipment. Top notch soloists, that generally have been associated with the house for some time - another difference to most opera houses nowadays that just believe in hiring singers based on a revolving door principle. I will make an effort to go to Karlsruhe more frequently.

Handel Festival in Karlsruhe 2024
Opera: "Siroe, Re di Persia"
The Handel Festival in Karlsruhe is really great!!!
For the opera –Siroe, Re di Persia– (Handel 1728) in February 2024:
Bravo!!! — Outstanding performance and sensitivity by Attilio Cremonesi
(= musical director) and the "German Handel Soloists".
It was an impulsive and emotional performance. Great direction!
Fantastic singers, wonderful stage design, grandiose scenes, wonderful lighting and finally beautiful costumes again!!!
That's what the audience wants:
A performance that captivates and fulfills! —
For example, "Riccardo Primo" (Handel) in Karlsruhe many years ago was just as fantastic! Back then with historical costumes.
I will never forget "Riccardo Primo" either!
I can highly recommend the Karlsruhe State Theater. – It's perfect that there are also 3 p.m. performances of the operas.
Good view of the stage everywhere. Good air.
Coat storage service free of charge.
Parking in the underground car park at the State Theater:
The underground car park is accessed via Ettlinger Strasse into Finterstrasse.
(The entrance is difficult to find and not immediately visible).
There is a theater tariff.
I come to the State Theater Karlsruhe more often now.
Thank you for excellent aesthetics
and unforgettable moments!
