I read in another comment that this city has few beautiful things to offer, which justifies a fairly high evaluation of this building (and the park adjacent to it). If I agree with the premise, I cannot agree with the somewhat shaky reasoning. In fact, the water tower itself is fairly commonplace, and the park deserves at best the description of pleasant. Let's say in any other city, this would get a mention, no more.

In a city as untouristy as Mannheim, the Friedrichsplatz is perhaps the most significant area to see. It is precisely in this beautiful square, covered by well-kept gardens and embellished with a pair of large fountains, that the water tower is located, which has now become a symbol of the city. This tower, with a circular plan, was built at the end of the nineteenth century and carried out the functions of supplying drinking water for just over twenty years. A building that in itself represents nothing exceptional but when seen together with the context in which it stands, it certainly becomes one of the main attractions of Mannheim.

Great Christmas market here in mannheim. The wasserturm is the perfect setting. But also visit the other Christmas markets. Like at the kapuziner place.

Water always interests me and when the sun is shining the water looks like thick silver dripping down the steps into the region of the fountains. The pictures I took didn’t do it justice.

I had a 5 hour layover in Frankfurt airport. It took all about 20 minutes to clear passport control, reach the train station, buy a ticket to Mannheim on German ICE trains. Mannheim Hauptbanhof is about 30 minutes from the airport. From the train station walk 6 to 7 blocks to reach the Wasserturm, which is lovely water tower with well kept gardens, lots of architecture and you can also visit the Benz Car company monuments, which are a couple of blocks. Mannheim has a tourist office just a block from the train station. Also, beside the Wasserturm, is the quadrant city of Mannheim, in which buildings are laid out in blocks and they have unique postal addresses. Very interesting. There are many coffee shops, fine restaurants and budget restaurants around this area to sit and while away the time.

during a sunny day, that's a perfect place i this city to chill out and lay in the park around the tower. the park is very clean , with nice flowers. must be seen if you go to Mannheim

Definitely worth a walk to the water tower. There is a short easy walk to and around the monument. In the spring & summer there are many flower beds planted through the garden area. There are extensive basins for fountains- but in my two years of visiting Mannheim every other month- I have not seen them with water nor running. It is a great place to sit, enjoy the sun & the view of the flowers & tower.

I was on business in Germany & I stayed in Mannheim. What a lovely city, calm & relaxed. Great atmosphere and beautiful tourist attractions. Shopalic heaven also. Enjoyed delicious Döner😀.
