Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The nationalpark Berchtesgaden is a nature gem in Germany, but you won´t come far without money.

The most popular gateway into the national park for tourists is by walking the famous "Wimbachklaam" waterfalls, before continuing into the park (2€ entrance).

However, there are a lot of hiking trails around this area, so not everywhere you have to pay for entrance. However, if you come by car - you´ll have to pay for parking everywhere from my experience.

I tried some of the more "off road" trails, to get away from the tourist crowds and try to find some wildlife. The nature is awesome, but many places are somewhat damaged from all the tourists visiting, and I was sad to find garbage several places in the woods.

This s a beautiful place to visit. You need to get there by boat from Berchtesgaden, but once there you get off the boat and bear right and go through the gate. There are beautiful walks all around the area and it's a wonderful scenic place to see. An absolute must to visit.

A very nice area with a couple of beautiful lakes and houses. We took the boat on the lake and took a hike from the far end. On the way back we took the boat to a restaurant half way back as well. Can get crowded in peak season

Take the boat tour through Lake Konnigsee to hear the echoes of the trumpet! This water is cold but it is so gorgeous to view and take in. This was a real mindfulness meditative moment for us as a family. We were able to "stop and smell" the sites and sounds of the Alps here. This was one of our favorites stops in all of Bavaria nex to the Grosser Arber.

We spent three days in Berchtesgaden National Park. The first day, we went to Koenigsee, took the boat. Our first stop was St Bartholoma. We opted to do the half hour walk surroundings. It was pretty. Then we continue our journey to Salet, where we walked about 15 min to Obersee. This the lake with reflection of the mountain cliff. There were two house boats on each side of the lake. We walked about 1 hr each way to Finchunkel. There was a hut selling bread & cheese. The trail to fischunkel was steep and rocky. This place was really busy. (We took bus 841)
The second day, we went to Wimbachklamm and St Sebastian church. (Bus 846)
The third day, we went to hike from Hintersee to Hirschbicl. It was about 2.5 hrs hike without stop, but we made stop along the way. Not sure how long it took us. The trail getting steeper mid way. If you don't want to hike, take almbus 847 which stop along the trail. We took bus 846 to Hintersee (the start of the hike). Our favorite stop was Hungerbruke and Bindalm. There was a couple of hut there selling bread, milk, cheese and beer. All of the tourist were local German. I think we were the only foreigner there. Very authentic experience.

We took the boat down lake Konigsee and stopped to hear the trumpet echo. I didn't understand anything the guide/trumpet player said because I don't speak German but lots of people seemed to laugh and like what he was saying. The view is just stunning. We stopped to see St Batholoma Chapel, have a snack and take a restroom break before heading to Salet. It was a Wednesday in May and had no need to wait for a boat which was great. I read it can take 1.5 hours to get a boat in high season.
This is a must see if you have the time. I will never forget the emeral color of this lake. Very relaxing this time of the year.
We are not hikers but learned there are several trails depending on diffcilty and time available.

Berchtesgaden Nation Park is truest awe-inspiring. It is beautiful, tranquil, and serene. I felt as though I had walked into a painting.

We spent the entire day here, taking the 1st of three lifts at 10 am and returning by 4 pm. The sights are stunning on a sunny day. Having said that, it could be much better:
- on the first level, there are hiking trails. A nice activity - but they are poorly marked, the area is under construction and there is sheep poop everywhere;
- on the 3rd level, there is the ice cave, a movie about the park and a walk on the glacier. Nice experience, but we saw many people wearing sandals, flip flops, & shorts. In fact, the area is prone to slips and falls, and can be dangerous. There were no emergecny personnel present & I (for one) was shocked to see this.
Overall, we recommend this as an all day activity on a sunny day. Hopefully, the AT government will improve the cleanliness and the safety issues.

It's one of the best areas for hiking in Germany offering several difficulty levels to select from within the park area.

The park offer really nice hikes and spectacular scenery. Every body knows that Königssee is a must... but I also recommend a hike around Jenner and Wimbachklamm gorge as well.
