The museum here is beautifully set out and very interesting. What is really good is the films that are run here for tourists to see about the Passion Play there are long and short versions depending on how long you have to spend. One of the films runs for about 5 minutes and is very comprehensive. While here you can... More

The building is certainly not beautiful however it has been very well designed for the Passion Play every ten years. It seats almost 5000 people and there are many doors on the side to move people efficiently. The stage area is 'open'.

once every ten years and 2020 will be 42 seasons-passion play the town committed to when the plague ended 400+ years ago. Great building in the middle of a beautiful Bavarian Village!

The backstage tour gives a good perspective on what they do here. The theater is huge, seating almost 5000. All of the cast must be from Oberammagau.

This is where the town puts on the passion play. Legend has it, a priest prayed to God to stop the Black Plague from taking villagers lives. They began to all get well and so to show God's mercy the priest vowed he would show God's mercy by putting on a performance of his passion.

If the weather hadn't been so terrible we may well have not bothered with this but were very glad we did. I'm not religious or into theatre but still very much enjoyed the tour, English version currently at 11.00, as a social explanation of why the Passion Play is so important to the town. The tour lasted about 50 mins.... More

I've had friends that have come here for the play that occurs every ten years but never expected such an emotional feeling about what happens and what goes on to put on such a powerful performance. The theater is state of the art yet still feels intimate. So glad I was able to experience this.

My husband and I had been in Oberammergau a few times during our 3-year tour in Europe. On the last trip, we wandered into the Passion Play Theater hoping to kill some time before dinner. And we are so glad. We were the only people there and had a private tour of the theater. Our guide was super engaging, and... More

Just lovely. Connect with your inner self with a visit to this place. I was a bit apprehensive thinking I want to see and do more in the quaint Bavarian village but travel and touring is exhausting. Church and cathedrals offer rest for the spirit but this place was unique in that sense. A visit worth the time spent resting... More
