Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another fairytale town in Germany. Small, but cute. Really nice to walk around, the view of the closeby mountains makes the visit much more pleasant.

The frescoes painted on the facades of some of the Oberammergau homes varies from the characters of familiar fairytale stories like Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel to those in religious stories. I preferred the images from the fairytale stories. The images range in size depending on the space they fill - between windows, over windows, under windows, around balconies, etc. Usually the homes are white stucco so that the colorful images stand out. These typically are painted with similar colors - blues, reds, yellows, brown and some greens and reds. The colors appear to be freshly painted; these are not obscure, faded images.

Find the Red Riding House and the Hansel and Gretel House opposite each other on Ettalier Street about a half a block away from the Oberammergau Church. The other well known house is Pilatus House, at the corner of Verlegergasse and Ludwig Thoma strasse, about a block away from the Kathy Wohlfahrt Christmas store on Dorfstrasse. Our tour bus drove past these places; to walk to see at least the 3 mentioned above - might take 30 minutes return from/to the Kathy Wohlfahrt store including lengthy photostops. It would be a pleasant stroll along the street as one never knows what story will be illustrated on the next house. These images do bring a smile to one's face. I just wish our tour had allotted more visiting time in this town.

We stopped over here while ion a tour to the Royal Castle? The house here are beautifully decorated with a wide variety of paintings on the outside. They vary from religious scenes to fairytale scenes each unique and brilliantly done. It is worth taking a bit of time to explore the town and see the various houses

Oberammergau is a picturesque and pleasant town for tourists. The houses are nicely decorated with beautiful frescos on the outside walls. Each picture contains a story that needs explanation from the local guide. It is nice to stroll around and see the houses from different angles.

The town is quite small and you can walk around it in several hours while hitting the high spots. The colorfully painted Bavarian houses and businesses add charm to the place that is much more famous for its annual Passion Plays at Lent. Make sure you see the Pilatushaus as well as the Geburtshaus, both being the best examples of these houses. Stop by the Kathy Wolfart shop for everything Christmas.

This is just one of the attractively painted buildings in Oberammergau. The frescos were designed to tell a story.

This town is justifiably famous for both the passion play and painted buildings. I personally think this is the best in town. A walk around the town is just a great half day activity.

We went there on a rainy day. The houses look so nice, the wood carving shops offer so many things to see and buy especially all those cuckoo clocks that are handmade. The scenery is full of green and nice frescos, the air is fresh and in general it is a great place to visit.
