The mission for the day was to visit the Zugspitze (Top of Germany.) On the train up the mountain we struck up a conversation with another American living and working in Garmisch. He highly recommended a few hours at the lake toting the clear water and views. As we descended, we could glimpse portions of the lake from above. The... More

Lived around the area for years, and on a nice sunny day you should visit, especially the Island with many sculptures, and a great restaurant. It is a pleasant 3 hour walk around the lake, with places to pause eat and drink. Yhr water is very clear and swiming, sailing and fishing allowed

We were staying in Murnau for a couple of nights and decided to walk around the edge of the lake, which is around 20km in total. The walk is relatively flat and mostly gravelled, so you don't need walking boots to enjoy it. There are a couple of bars etc to stop and have a drink of the way round,... More

peaceful place, the size of the lake is very large so if you have riding pout you will need strong legs, the view is amazing but the seating isn't easy as no place to set

While visiting Murnau, we decided to go on a boat trip round the lake. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. You can get on and off the boat. I think there are three stops and different villages. The cost of the trip is 9.5 euros each and well worth the money. Very enjoyable.

Popular, and with good reason. Warm water, nice lawns upon which to laze, with eating opportunities near to the water. Not especially scenic in a land of stunning scenery, but it is about the temperature of the water. Close enough to Munich for an afternoon visit.

During a day trip in Murnau (from Munich) in September 2015 we enjoyed a ride on the Seehausen tour boat. The boat was very clean, selling small snacks and beverages. It is a beautiful lake with great views of the Alps and the surrounding green space. With the sun it was warm enough to sit on the upper deck and... More

The boat ride offers a relaxing experience with nice views of countryside and the Alps. Afterwards, enjoy a nice meal at Restaurant Alpenblick at one of the stops. (this also offers ample parking)

The lake was really nice and quiet. Not too many tourists around. The views of the different island was interesting to see. Lots of different types of boats available to explore even more. Well kept walking path around the lake. The water was very clear all around. Recommended for some quiet, reflective time.

We (friends and family with a baby) took the boat at 10:00 that costs 9eu and it takes a around the lake. It makes several stops and you can hop on and off where you prefer. We had cakes and coffees in the boat, very delicious and not expensive. Then we left and had a sausage, pretzels and some beer... More
