Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This square was designated in 1946 to commemorate the victims of National Socialism. In 1985, the memorial pillar with the eternal was constructed. In 2014, a bronze plaque was added with the inscription "In Memory of the Victims of National Socialist Tyranny" (Im Gedenken an die Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft).

At this place between Odeonsplatz and Karolinenplatz, as the name suggests, the victims of National Socialism are remembered. The Eternal Flame burns on a column, behind which is a bronze plaque with an inscription. According to the tour guide, the square was desolate and uninviting for a long time. But it has now been given some greenery and there are a few benches where you can stop and relax.

This square dedicated to the victims of National Socialism. Erected in 1985, the memorial consists of an eternal flame in a cage, set amongst a tree lined public square in memory of those who the Nazis considered to be undesirable elements of their society.
It's very poignant to see an eternal flame to victims rather than soldiers.

Platz Der Opfer Des Natzionzlsozialismus (Place of the victims of National Socialism) is a public square near the northeast end of Maximilianplatz. It is a location near the site of the Gestapo HQ and other departments of the NSDAP during the Nazi regime. In 1946, the square was renamed as a means to memorialise those who suffered by the names of the Nazi party.
Most interestingly, what you will see here is a rectangular-shaped granite column with an eternal flame that was created by German sculptor Andreas Sobeck in 1985. The monument symbolises the need to never forget the atrocities committed by the Nazis against people because of their race, religion or other characteristics. It is a touching memorial.
Sadly, we couldn't find an information panel anywhere on the square to explain the monument's meaning. This would have been very helpful, especially for those passing by without prior knowledge of its monument or meaning. At present, you'll have to read up on this location and monument online or in your travel books before you visit to Munich to appreciate it's purpose during your visit.

We came by this monument when we were on the Third Reich walking tour. A very touching place. It is a rectangular-shaped granite column with an eternal flame. Our guide told us that it was built to commemorate the victims of Nazi.
