This prominent public square, the largest in Munich, still stands as the center of social activity in the city, much as it has throughout history.

to people watch. You have street performers and some groups pushig their propaganda. Fortunately for me, I do not German so I really did not understand what they are talking about. What a crowed place but it is worth the experience.

A trip to Munich isn't complete without a visit to the Marienplatz. If you time your visit (11:00, 12:00 or 5:00) you'll be treated to the sights and sounds of the glockenspiel.

Our time in Munich was very short, but the place is fantastic, will come back for sure. We have been very lucky with the nice autumnal weekend.

Place was crowded as everyone here was waiting for the clock to sound at 11am and the music to play with the movement of the figuring. It was nice and brings out the old times.

Marienplatz station is easily accessible via trains. The Town Hall with the revolving carillon is a spectacle every hour and there is always something happening in the square. Close proximity to shops, restauarants and even the Tourist Office. Great view of the churches and other...More

Too much people all the time, difficult to move around, nice buildings though and a lot of shopping opportunities and restaurants.

This seems to be the central place in Munich. People constantly there, either tourists to see the carillon at the town hall or locals passing thru to shopping. Beautiful spot. Connects with eateries, the victualienmarkt, St Peters Church, tourist shopping as well as local shops....More

Come to the plate during weekend day. Less busier. We came on a Friday and a Saturday. The amount of people difference was out of the park. We could barley walk on Saturday cause of so much people.

Yes, very close by. It's the Marienplatz stop (easy, huh?)

The terrain is quite cobbled but I would suggest still accessible by wheelchair, although it was very crowded during the summer months. Have not attended UK Christmas markets so unable to offer a comparison.

We did see wheelchairs around the area and they seem to be having no problems. There are no steps around the area that is most popular. I have not been to the UK,so not familiar with the markets there. Enjoy your trip.
