Clearly an incredible opera house. The building is truly like a music temple. The exterior and the interior are quite imposing, but the auditorium itself is particularly impressive with fantastic acoustics. Went there for Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth under Kirill Petrenko's direction and I enjoyed every minute of it. Anja Kampe as Katerina Izmailova was simply perfect, stunning performance.

The place itself is a beautiful piece of architecture. Inside and outside just amazingly beautiful. When it comes to the performances it's a matter of taste. One thing for sure though: it's a bit pricy to watch a show. But an experience that's usually worth it.

The opera house and bars are a wonder and well worth a visit. The performance of Donizetti's "La Favourite" wasn't ideal - poor costume and set design and no discernable choreography; reminiscent of a bunch of singing commuters lost in a 1960s public library. For only the second time in dozens of opera attendances we left at the interval and... More

Touch of Greek style architecture. Grand building. Music is in the air. Pity didn't get to see a recital inside.

This imposing building houses the Bavarian State Opera. We were lucky enough to score two tickets to Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg" at the Staatsoper. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful experience! We were very impressed with the theatre's grandure and its excellent acoustics. The singers were also wonderful and the staging imaginative. A very satisfying evening.

We went to see Don Giovanni - an excellently performed opera with good singing and good sound. The building is marvellous, both in the opera hall itself and ind the lobby/pause areas. We were 7 minutes late due to a complete S-bahn standstill (after 20 minutes, we ran for the car). The handling of latecomers wasn't very well organized -... More

We booked a day trip to Munich from Austria especially to see this Opera. Great preliminary days in Salzburg and a nice day and lunch in Munich set us up for a wonderful evening of classical Opera. Imagine our faces therefore when the production started with a group of door security lookalikes skating onto an ice stage and seemingly playing... More

Watched La Bohème almost two weeks ago. The theater is awesome, the opera and singers were incredible, helpful staff and good (but a little pricey) coffee. Even if you're not an opera-lover, I really think it's worth buying even one cheap ticket for those standing seats instead of just taking the tour through the theater or looking at it from... More

Wouldnt personally go there for a tour. But the building itself is beautiful, inside and out. Went in June to see Swan Lake, it was an amazing performance. 10 euros for standing 3 hours but it was worth it. Staff was helpful in showing us our correct spots. Went for water at the intermission, 3 euros! That was my only... More
