This big and interesting Cattle Market fountain is a relatively modern fountain in the historic old town. It was created in 1964 by the Munich sculptor Josef Henselmann.

Henselmann created a terraced fountain. Above the steps, the fountain is crowned by a bulky bronze group of three cattle. The stone figure of a watchful shepherd sits a little apart.

We visited Munich recently and found Rindermarktbrunnen at Rindermarkt to be covered up for the winter. The only part that remains visible (Dec 2019) is the head of the three cattle and the herdsman sitting upon the stone wall nearby.

This is an interesting cascading fountain and pool to see when it is in operation during warmer months of the year. You'll see three cattle peering forward at the foot of the cascades, while the simple herdsman sits on the wall nearby watching over the small herd.

This fountain monument is the work of German sculptor Josef Henselmann (1964) and is well worth spending a few minutes to enjoy if the fountain is operation when you pass by this area of Munich.

Nice, centrally located unusual fountain with stone steps and iron cows. Nice to sit around or watch kids play.

One of the interesting fountain monuments around the Old Town is the Cattle Market Fountain (Rindermartbrunnen) at the small Rinder Market square and street.

Here you find an interesting sculpture of a three cattle viewing forward into a series of cascading water steps. A sculpture of a herdsman can be seen as well sitting on a stone wall nearby. This sculptural fountain was made in 1964 by German sculptor Josef Henselmann.

There are quite a few spots around Rindermartbrunnen to take a seat and enjoy the surrounds. Thus, this can be a good spot to get off your feet for a few minutes if you've been sightseeing around the city for a while and need a rest.

In the end, this is one of the more interesting fountains in the Old Town and worth having a look-see if you enjoy viewing fountains and monuments during your travels.

Came here during the Winter season, so the fountain was closed. There were some places to sit in the open area, so it is a good place to relax. The surrounding buildings, especially the Ruffinihaus, has got very nice architecture.

In summer you can cool down your feed in the spring, while the kids are playing with the iron cows. In winter you will find here parts of the Christmas market.

A very nice fountain located near to Marienplatz. Nothing very much to see but a great place for relaxation and people watching.

Was told that there is a very nice Christmas market here usually during the year end.

We went in December, during the Christmas Markets in Germany. It was one of the first stops on our guided Christmas Market tour in Munich. A decent size with a good selection of foods, Glühwein of course and Christmas ornaments. Not overly large so a good way to get comfortable in the Christmas market scene when traveling to Germany.

In contrast to the Christmas market on Marienplatz, which is packed with crowds every day, the Christmas market on Rindermarkt, just a few meters away, is more atmospheric.

I especially love "Flammlachs" in a roll or with baked potatoes and mustard sauce.
