About
Nuremberg's Christmas Market starts at the end of November and continues through December. It's a traditional, festive German market with yuletide treats like gluhwein, gingerbread and Nuremberg's famous bratwurst sausages. The opening ceremony is presented by the glamourous Christkind, who recites her now famous Christmas speech to thousands in the Main Market Square. You could also take a city tour in the old fashioned stage coaches and enjoy the nostalgic Christmas tunes the coachman plays on his trumpet. Finally, take a walk up the steps of the Church of Our Lady for a spectacular view of the market's red and white coloured stalls and decorative lights. The children's market section is ideal for families.

We get it - this is probably the most famous Christmas market in all of Germany, and people are going to come from all over the world in large numbers to visit it (us included). So it wasn't the crowds so much that left us disappointed, but rather the surprisingly limited variety of both food and goods among the vendors. We figured there would be enough options for food that we could get a few night's worth of dinners out of the market, but we quickly learned that basically the only entrees being sold were sausages and fish. For the goods, while there were certainly a lot of vendor tents, many of them were selling identical or similar goods, and there seemed to be a lack of homemade/artisan goods. While we are happy we visited, we probably could have spent a single night here, and it was also not our favorite market during our Christmastime stay in Germany. This place is most popular at night, so we did take the time to come during the day, when it's far less crowded, to do our gift shopping.
That said, the sausages were indeed pretty tasty were fresh off the grill. Additionally, there are gluhwein stands everywhere. The nice thing about them is that they all use the same mug, so you don't have to return the mug to the same stall to get your deposit back. And there was nightly holiday music near the Church, which included among other songs, contemporary Christmas hits. Feliz Navidad!

My family and I traveled to Germany this Christmas season to experience the beautiful Christmas markets. Prior to this holiday, the only Christmas market I have attended is the Birmingham Christmas market in the U.K. While our family enjoyed the Nuremberg Christmas market, it was not everything I hoped it would be. Our family attended the Christmas market on opening night. The market was so crowded, one could not hardly move. We found ourselves wondering what all of the hype was all about and thought we must be missing something. During our holiday in Germany we also visited the Bamberg Christmas market and the Rothenburg Christmas market and found both to be much more enjoyable.

I heard so many superlatives about Nuremberg Christmas market so I decided to use my layover in Nuremberg to visit it finally. It most probably depends on the day and time you come but I was disappointed. I arrived on Friday late afternoon, the place was already crowdy but still somehow bearable, but in the evening it became overcrowded and was not enjoyable anymore, I was pushed by crowd couldn´t stop without risking that someone will pour the mulled wine on my back. I ended up in Starbucks and left soon. Fortunately, there were many stands with drinks and meal on the way from the train station and whole city was beautifully decorated so I could enjoy Christmas atmosphere out of the market too and didn´t have to hurry up to the hotel.

…I was in Nuremberg for the first time!!…a few days ago!!…at the Christkindlesmarkt!!…they say one of the oldest and most famous markets in the world!!…lots of beautiful wooden stalls with lots of handcrafted things on display!!… lots of traditional Christmas decorations!!…many handmade!!…candles!!…lots of sweets like gingerbread!!…famous all over the world!!…sandwiches with typical sausages that are grilled on the spot!!… the peculiarity of this Christmas Market is that it always closes on December 24th!!...Christmas Eve!!...which in my opinion also has the right logic!!...because they are organized as a preparation for Christmas...to be able to buy traditional gifts and sweets !!...here is the Chirstkind!!...a symbol of Christmas and also of the market!!...an angel!!...but in Nuremberg it is a natural person!!...elected every two years to be the ambassador of Christmas! !...clearly they must have some requirements!!...be girls between the ages of 16 and 19!!...they cannot exceed a certain height!!...and they must be born in Nuremberg!!...this is a nice tradition too!!...yes it says there are around 180 stalls!!…certainly this Christmas Market in Nuremberg!!…it was for me!!…the most beautiful ever!!…

Unfortunately, we could not see the entirety of this magnificent illuminated painting because we had to leave Nuremberg on November 2. The Christmas market starts from December 1st. Some of it has been prepared now and even this much looks very nice.

Amazing experience. This market was on my bucketlist and didn’t disappoint. We tried all of the delicious foods and hot drinks and snacks and had fun just walking around perusing the goods. We went during the day and evening/night and there were less people during the day, so it was much more enjoyable. At night it was a bit claustrophobic and harder to look at all the stalls. This is a must do when traveling during Christmas. Bring warm clothes because it gets so so so cold.

The biggest Christmas market in Europe. It's worth a visit for that alone. Otherwise, I would say that it does not have anything substantial or useful. The items sold are the same as those of all Christmas markets eg Vienna, Salzburg, overpriced and of low quality. It is a nice experience to see the thousands of visitors and the choirs singing Christmas carols in different places, without this meaning that they always do it well! As long as they create an atmosphere, though. On the first night you visit it with interest and anticipation. But from the second night you get bored of her. Attention, some sellers do not accept cards for payment and only want cash. The traditional sausage sandwich is quite good.
The carousel is fabulous. Very big and shiny. And in general, this market is a good choice for children.

We came here as the 3rd Christmas market of many. The lights and festive feeling in the area is beautiful. It's not the best market of all of them that we went to, but it's centrally located from the train station and worth a few hours. We had their famous sausage sandwich which was great. The prices are normal for a Christmas market. Definitely it's a one time market you will want to see.

May I know which place should I stay on Neremberg?

Our favourite hotel is the Sorat Hotel Saxx. Right in the town centre and adjacent to the Christmas Market. Easy to get to all attractions on foot.

Please help! We are thinking to use Bamberg as a base to visit Nuremberg. Also, from Bamberg, we will be staying a night in rothenburg. My question is, is it really hard to find parking in Nuremberg Christmas market? I wanted to drive because we have our 11month old son is with us. I'm afraid to take the bus and train at night with our son going back to Bamberg. Tia!

I'd suggest taking the train instead of driving. Parking can be hard to find near the Market. There are several per day and the Market extends to across the street from the Station. The walk to the center of the fest is less than 10 minutes so no taxi is needed. The non-stop trains (14? per day) only take a little over 30 minutes and are quite safe.
